Red face Running out of time!

Ok, so I've officially given up on the apartment scene in Omaha; too many negative reviews have me worried. So anyway, I am currently looking for a home to rent or lease with option, in the Sarpy County area, or Northwestern Omaha. If anyone comes across any homes that are 1 to 3 bedroom/all appliances/Garage...I would be sooooo appreciative if you could send me the link or contact info!!! Like I stated before, it is just me moving so I don't need anything spectacular, just $700/mo or less AND SAFE! I've been checking the Omaha World Herald daily and a few other internet sites, but homes to rent are difficult to come across. Word of mouth is a great learning tool! I only have ONE WEEK left...AAAHH!

For a city with over 800,000 people I can't believe that it's been that hard to find a decent apartment. One thing to consider is no one ever tells you about a good waiter they had. They tell you about the horrible one. Most people aren't going to take the time to write a friendly review. Those looking to complain will. So don't be deterred.

I would recommend the apartment complex that I live in. Its called Brentwood Park Apartment and is off of the interstate. It is actually located in La Vista on 108th and Giles.

Also, there was a previous person on this forum that did a lot of research into apts and just a few days ago posted that he ended up The Pointe Apts in LaVista.

Here is the whole discussion thread:

And here is an excerpt with the contact information for the one he ended up at:

These appear to be very nice and clean. They are in a safe part of town. I have not heard anything bad about them (but I am not a renter).

They are just about 1 mile east from the other recommendation on the previous post.

Ok, thanks...I will look into each apartment. Brentwood is actually managed by the same company as my apartment here in Michigan, and I love them! The Pointe was also my 1st choice before I read about all the car break-ins and "gave up" on the apt. idea. DTO..I totally understand what you're saying, and I'm trying to take that into account; but you have to know that I was born in raised in Flint, MI--which has been either 1st, 2nd or 3rd most dangerous city to live in for at least the past 5 years!!! I'm just sick of being around so much violence and robberies, break-ins, shootings and stabbings! Ok, well I'm now scheduled to arrive in Omaha this Sunday!! Despite my concerns, I am SO EXCITED to become a Nebraskan!!! I can't wait to explore the city next week before I start work!!! Wish me luck

The car break-ins comment really suprises me... they are in a very nice part of town, low crime, back up to residential... only 1 mile from the other apts so each are in the same basic community... I live maybe 3 miles south of them and we have very little crime in these areas.

Curious - was the comment by a single poster???? or was it a theme of a bunch of folks???

fyi... LaVista is 43% of the National crime rate when it comes to Car Theft and 33% for Burglary (I think that is 2003 FBI data so a little dated, but if anything things are better) - this is based on per capita stats

Realizing you come from a high crime area, take a look at this chart comparing Flint to National to LaVista... you will be very pleased with what you see... every category, Flint is significantly higher than National and LaVista is significantly lower.Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed

No need to compare Omaha to Flint.
Even Detroit is better off than Flint.
I used to work near Flint also. It looks even worse there than any of that supporting data shows, ghost town/war zone.
Anyone from Flint KNOWS their city's reputation.
But car thefts do occur in and around Omaha. No matter what city she moves to in the U.S. there is some chance of a car being stolen.
Very slim chance here, but its good to have insurance.

I agree - was just doing to comparison because she had the concern about an apt review that talked about car break-ins in LaVista - wanted to give her a sense of what the crime level actually was... a really bad situation in her new area will probably be way better than her old area

Wow, that sure is scary! I do feel a whole lot better though!! I'm quite embarassed that my hometown ranks soooo much higher than La Vista (and the national average), but it is a VERY comforting feeling knowing I'm moving to a much safer area! Thank you so much for that data; I feel at ease about moving into those apartments now! I even talked to Carly in the office and she seemed very helpful and I'm meeting with her on Monday. Looks like that may be home now. You guys are awesome and I appreciate all your help--neighbors
