I agree with DTO. I would have no problem sending my children there but I wouldn't live in the area. I say that as someone that grew up within a few miles of Omaha North. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better magnet school in the area.

Does anyone know how I can get violent crime stats for that area? Should I call the local law enforcement dept? I'd hate to go on hearsay alone, and I don't fully trust the Sperling's best Places site. Thanks again!

Actually FBI crime data is reported by zip code... I've looked it up before, let me poke around and see if I can find the link.

Here is one question: Do the police ever patrol the gang infested areas as much as they do anywhere else? If the answer is no, then here is the solution: a police presence would help.

From what I've been told, the police patrol the gang infested areas more than other areas.

True, the Omaha police also have a special Gang Unit - they keep a very close eye on what's going on with gangs.

You better retract that statement - I couldn't find the link that shows crime by zip code... I could find by city, but not zip.... I know there is one, but ???

I hope so. Many cities could sure use.

If gangs are the majority of Omaha's crime problems, then Omaha isn't that bad as far as most major cities are concerned.
