Best Time to Visit Omaha?
Hi,
I would like to surprise my boyfriend with a trip to Omaha (his childhood hometown) next year. I haven't found anything online with regard to the best time of year, weather-wise, to visit. I am a native Californian so personally I would prefer to avoid the tornado season!
I'm just trying to find out what time of the year is the weather the mildest in Omaha? Then I can start planning the trip around that timeframe.
Thanks in advance!

Never. Winter, cold and wind. Spring, more wind. Summer, hot, humid and wind. Fall, maybe two days without wind. Good luck.

Despite the somewhat pessimistic response, it made me laugh out loud. Okay, those are my options - well, I'm determined to go so maybe I will try before Spring? I just read elsewhere that tornadoes are present mostly during Spring and Summer. I'm fine with cold, with wind, with heat - just not weather that can lift me up off the ground!
I do appreciate the response, thanks.

I used to live in Omaha and I would go visit during the summer. Very nice most of the time ( I am from San Antonio so heat is a relative term here). You might end up in a heat wave but more than likely not. Spring you have more of a chance for tornados.

Omaha weather
Being that I live in an area that doesn't get fall colors, all the times I visited Omaha--except for one time--were in the month of October. Each time I've gone, the trees were in their peak with the various shades of yellow, orange and red, which to me, were a breathtaking sight to behold. However, I did notice that there were a few overcast days, but not too bad.
The one time I visited in the spring, it rained a lot, it was windy and yes, MANY tornado watches. I stayed at my friend's house, and he said that we'd have to be prepared to go down to his basement "just in case." Fortunately, even though funnel clouds were spotted, they never touched down. But, coming from an area that doesn't have that kind of weather, I was getting a little concerned!
Perhaps Omaha should be the Windy City, instead of Chicago?

Best time to visit Omaha
Don't schedule a trip when Buffett's annual Berkshire Hathaway meeting is going on. All of the hotel rooms in Omaha are sold out during the meeting.
You may want to visit in late April, which can be very nice weather wise, but I don't know if that's during tornado season. econ

If you want to come right now (1/15) it is -19 below with the windchill and -5 without (but yes the wind is usually allways blowing). I would try early May, you should beat some of the heat plus May is just a great month. I wish it was May right now in fact.

The one time I visited Omaha in the spring, it was the first week in May. When I first arrived, it was in the upper 80's. As the week progressed, it got windier and cooler, then storm clouds started appearing, ending with LOTS of rain! As I mentioned in another post, there were lots of tornado watches during my time there. Of course, by the time I had to fly back home to California, the weather was perfect (sunny, slightly breezy, highs in the mid 70s with low humidity). Just my luck!

I would visit anytime when it isn't winter. It may be harder to get a hotel but if you're wanting to have an especially different visit, come during the College World Series in June. If crowds aren't your thing I would come another time. 300,000 spectators tend to crowd things.

Best times to visit?
-June/July ... when the CWS isn't happening (unless you want to attend)
-September/October
If you're from the south... you'll have no problem with our summers.
For the most part, Omaha's weather is very much like any other midwestern city.
