Opinions on Little Italy Area
My wife and I are moving to Omaha in the beginning of August. We are young, mid 20s, no children are are interested in moving to Downtown/Old Market Area. I had noticed quite a number of apartments for rent in the Little Italy Area of town. I was wonder how this area was if it was a good place to live or if we should stay away from it. Thanks in advanced.

Old Market is a nice area... they are turning lots of old buildings into Condos that are really nice... You won't have to walk far for entertainment/night life as you will be right there in the heart of it all!
As far as crime goes... i wouldn't say its a bad area, but not the best either... You might occasionally get asked for money by a homeless person but that's about it!

What do you mean by "Little Italy"? It can vary according to who you talked to.
Got some sample cross streets of houses you looked at?

I don't know that I'd call it the BEST neighborhood in Omaha...but probably not too bad.

THere is absolutely nothing wrong with that area you menitoned. I have friends who lived right near there for years and never had any problems. There is hardly any crime to speak of.
Downtown is probably the safest part of town. As a single 20 something who lives Downtown I would highly recommend moving down here. I also know quite a few single couples without kids living down here too.

10th & Pacific is good hard working families... If I wanted to live closer to the urban core I wouldn't hesitate to look at that area. With the redevelopment that's occuring I think its only going to be getting better.

I used to work at this printing company called Moore Wallace that was located in that area (off of 10th + Douglas right before you get on the freeway) and some developer bought the building and turned it into beautiful condo's... And its right next to the ConAgra campus so you could have an excellent view of the New Years Eve Fire Works! But I think they were for sale rather than rent, but the entire downtown/old market area looks really nice...
My wife and I used to take walks down at the Gene Leahy mall right at dusk and it was always pleasant and we never had a problem!
Since you are in your mid 20's I would highly recommend the area!

Is Millard really safer than downtown or is that just an outdated suburban stereotype?
There are some areas of Millard that don't have the neighborhood fabric of downtown.
