And communism is most often based on an oligarchy... we are fortunate to have a representative form of government here. If it is the will of the majority of the people's representatives to ban the ownership of pit bulls... and smoking in public places... then I guess I'll accept that.

So I take it you have never insulted the President or the war in Irag? Doing so would only contradict your statement.
Also, communism is still a representative form of government even if the representatives are not appointed by the people. Oligarchy is also a word better used when comparing a monarchy or possibly a dictatorship.

I didn't say I was opposed to actions of government .. I said I would accept the action of my representative government... because that is the process. That doesn't mean I can't/won't work to change/influence those representing me as well.
Representatives in former Soviet Union, China and Cuba are/were elected by the privileged communist party members... not the general public. That's an oligarchy.

You didn't not say you were opposed either. If the majority of pit bulls are not causing harm, then why ban them without the people's vote? I can also understand that the majority off the people that support the smoking ban are also not going to bars, so why ban smoking without a vote? I can understand why smoking and food doesn't mix, but there are a lot of closet smokers and government will start to see a decrease in taxes when people aren't smoking so much.
Also, I didn't say oligarchy doesn't always apply to communism. I simply stated a better example for the word. If you want to get technical, based on the iron law of oligarchy, even a democracy would eventually be considered an elected oligarchy.

It rarely comes to a "people's vote". This is not a democracy... call your representative. This is the process... you can argue about it all you want, wake up tomorrow and it will still be the same.
If "if's" and "but's" were candy and nuts... what a wonderful world it would be.
yaa daa daaahh... daa daaahh... daa daaaaah.

I hate most dogs(and I am scared of them) and I am definitely scared of pit bulls. If Omaha bans pit bulls, then that is one less thing I have to worry about.

wow... not the attitude we've been fortunate to have on the forum over the year I've been on... there have been some strong disagreements between the Nebraska folks but haven't seen this type of thing creep in... oh well... at least everyone is welcome and it keeps the conversations going.

You don't hear nor read about dog attacks other then pit bulls because it does not sell papers and more then likely continue to watch the news after commercial. It always unfortunate when people get attacked, but there are bigger dangers in life to be afraid of. People using cell phones while driving cause more harm then pit bull attacks, so why not complain about them and get them banned as well.
