Nice pictures... now, show me what Omaha really looks like. Pictures of the downtown, stadiums, riverfront, historic neighborhoods are all great-- but those types of pictures can already be found in abundance on the internet. I think it would be fascinating if someone took pictures of some of the old US highway business routes running through down or cool old strip malls with tons of hole in the wall restaurants and mom and pop businesses... and some of the 1950s-60s era neighborhoods. I'm dead serious... this is the kind of stuff that fascinates me. Downtowns and city centers are great and they're important for the vitality of a city, but the old suburbs, if you ask me, are the true bread and butter of any city. Anybody up for the challenge?

Move it any time. Thanks.
Heck VegasPilgrim... I posted the 'chamber of commerce' photos because, as can be attested from the responses they've received here, most folks here aren't aware with any aspect of Omaha at all... save perhaps the steaks present in every major airport. I guess your request suggests 'mission accomplished' on that front.
While I don't make a practice of photographing every aspect of Omaha (actually, I haven't gone on a photo trip for a couple of years now in general)... I'll see what I can come up with from my 'vast' collection. Perhaps some of my colleagues who actively engage in photographing Omaha, might join in as well. If you're truly interested... I'd suggest using the forementioned google streets view as well... although they seem to have neglected out older suburbs.
Thanks.

It says in the "Please read before posting" thread at the top of this forum:
"The General U.S. [forum] is for questions not specific to any one state or city."
So as nice as it is to see these pictures of Omaha, shouldn't this and other threads that are specific to one city be on those cities' respective forums?

Sorry, I hadn't noticed that stipulation within the forum posting guidelines. Moderator... feel free to move this (once again) to the photo section.
I did, however, think it was important to place this thread alongside those which were causing damage to the reputation of Omaha (largely at the hands of those who should be otherwise positively speaking for it).
I think the thread has served it's purpose, in providing some insight into the great smaller city which Omaha is. It's not a world class city as some here are seem bent on shoving into everyones face... but it is a great mid sized American city.
Thanks.

Wherever this thread ends up, I really do appreciate your taking the time to show us pictures of your hometown. I'm sure it took a long time to get them uploaded. And they really are nice.

Actually, I think it's more a situation of those showing some maturity... and those not.

I'm not being immature, but I'm going to stand up for my city when people try to pin it as the boring locale it was ten or twenty years ago. Excuse me for taking on the misconceptions instead of just letting Omaha get bashed in the national spotlight.

The bashing is not coming without some provocation. Just ease off of the 'in your face' promotion of Omaha.
