as i read this thread I have been thinking. So I will post my thoughts and I will give you the perspective from an average teen.
I have lived in Omaha since I was born several years ago at Methodist Hospital. Lets just say I am extremely proud of the city I live and so are most of the people who live here. The sad thing is most of the country does not know Omaha all that well. Omaha posters are so protective because we get this all the time. "Omaha, corn, cows, Warren, Football, and nothing else" quote some LA kid that I met when I was there. That is what I'd say 60% of the country thinks of us. Omaha posters are trying to change these guys minds by throwing all these random facts about Omaha. I admit whenever I go out of town and people say where are you from? I say Omaha. I get weird looks like, where's your overalls or shouldn't you be attending your cows? I will get a bunch of that crap when I go out to LA this weekend. We try to convince people Omaha is big by getting events like the CWS, Swimming Trials, Volleyball Final Four, and much more here.
I just want to say Omaha is a fantastic city, and you can say anything you want about it, but the truth is Omaha is growing and nobody can stop it. With the downtown ballpark, riverwalk bridge, Riverside Condo towers, WallStreet tower (another large building),NODO remodeling, Aksarben Village, L Street Marketplace, Elkhorn now, Midtown Crossing, 80 dodge, and so much more. Plus the possibility of a fourth skyscraper with PACLIFE.
Omaha is no Las Vegas, LA, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Miami, San Fran, or hell San Antonio (great town).
Omaha is Omaha and I am a proud citizen of this city.

Hey don't laugh... Nebraska is one of two states which will split electoral college votes. There's some chance, albeit small... that Omaha could give a vote to Obama... even though the rest of the state goes to McSame. If it's close... it could come down to Omaha! Okay, now that WOULD be funny.

i find it funny that exactly by trying to defend omaha more and trying to make it seem like a great place you prove most peoples point that the people act like omaha is the end all be all of cities. go to the Miami post and see how many times they comment on omaha or for that fact any major city. You wont. Its like the little brother trying to prove hes just as strong as the older brother. But the older brother knows hes stronger because hes not even comparing himself to the little brother. Its cultural diversity is abysmal 75% white. your a world class city when your a melting pot like New york or London. you have entertainment but you really cant do anything in omaha without paying 90 percent of the year. Yeah you can go sledding but im 22 and if i see a 22 year old sledding and they dont have a kid im punching them in the face. THe beach is fun for all ages. Hiking is non existent and literally no natural beauty unless you love corn.

wow. wrong place if you didn't want response.
Omaha isn't looking for, HEY I'M BETTER THAN NEW YORK IN EVERY WAY!!, we're looking for, Hey, I'm Omaha, let me have a legitimate seat at the table, and see what I have to offer. But we are mearley dismissed at being a town we're not. Our cultural diversity is better than the national average, which is better than I can say for some cities, and cost of living is really low here, making it easy to afford to take in a show, and if that's not your thing, Omaha is nutoriously more hilly than most people think, and has forest areas like Hummel Park and Fontenelle forest. perfect places if you want to go hiking in an enviornment that can remind you about the beauty of nature.

Exactly, city-data forumers are grossly mistaking our civic pride.. We think Omaha is the greatest city for us and we see that it keeps improving..
You can have new york, la or chicago as they are not the 'type' of city I like, I like what we have going here.

Putz,
What natural beauty does New York city have? How about Kansas City or Chicago? What about Houston? How about Minneapolis or Milwaukee? How about St. Louis? I could go on and on.
None of these cities are known for any level of appreciable natural beauty! You know very very little about Nebraska if you think its nothing more than corn fields. Have you ever been in Nebraska? Furthermore, have you ever been off I-80?
You are proving our point concerning people trashing Nebraska. What a small and petty person it takes to go out of your way to trash a city. If Omaha is so irrelevant then why may I ask are you so obsessed with trashing it!

I don't think there is any mistaking your civic pride...
But there may be some wondering about the hospitality side of the area and its people after reading this. And I am not pointing fingers at you, ehenningsen. Its this whole topic.

I can respect that SG, the problem is that when people come here to tell us how bad we have it, we respond with facts and experiences and then we are told that we don't have an open mind or that our facts are wrong because their facts are right...
It's annoying, its frustrating, and I'd rather look like an idiot while making an idiot looking like an idiot than to just sit here and listen to all of these urban myths which have no basis to reality and to what this city has...
I know people have their opinions on Omaha, but don't tell us that Omaha has no jobs, or is so cold that igloos freeze or whatever.. You can say your peace, move to florida and drown in the heavenly fantasy they have created in their head..
I know this city, and have been following it since I was five and I have lived in other cities, and I have many articles and facts and figures by the tax foundation, ny times, forbes or whatever that dispels 90% of all the stupid generalities that gets shoved into our faces..
So while we may look like idiots to you and other people for standing up to city-data board drifters being idiots, I DONT CARE... If somebody comes on this board and has no intention of being civil or rashional, then I have zero intentions on giving something they dont deserve...
As they preach here in Nebraska, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth..
You shoot my dog, your dog will get bit by the same bullet...
