I have been a fan of Street View on Google Maps. Recently, Omaha and a lot of the surrounding area has been added. It's a pretty cool feature...
Google Maps Zoom in closer to Omaha... You will see a "Street View" button at the top of the map... Click on it, and you'll see a blue area... Zoom in closer, street level, and click on a street... It'll show you a 360 degree view! It reaches out towards York, Beatrice, and Nebraska City. Just thought I'd let you guys know! |

Yeah, Omaha was actually among some of the first cities added (apparently someone thinks we're important, eh Adam?
)... it's just somewhat disappointing that they chose to ignore most of the core of Omaha.Heck, my neighborhood out in the 'pan handle' (aka 168th and Pacific area) has been covered extensively. |

One of the first added? I'm not so sure about that...
And I can't believe they didn't include the core area... They just did a few of the major arteries. |

Go to the national map and click on street view... you'll see that Nebraska has one of the largest areas of coverage in the nation... out into some very rural surroundings. Omaha was indeed among the first couple of dozen or so cities added... that's pretty small company for a city that many on this city-data.com forum proclaim as insignificant.

Might have something to do with Google building their data-center in Council Bluffs... The Omaha metro will be an important area for them from an employment and research perspective - so no suprise they would put it higher on their list for Google Streets.

Sorry, I didn't understand your reply! I thought you meant it was added right away once it was launched.
Dave, I forgot about the Google data center in CB... I'll be moving to Omaha in a few months While I'm familiar with Omaha, to an extent, its nice to see the areas where I haven't ventured yet! |
