Since it is your first year at the middle school, it is good i guess. 7th grade was great and 8th grade was boring because I was already used to the school. The High School is where all the action is. At the middle school they are building a performing arts center which is cool but it is not supposed to be done until 2009-2010 so... you won't see it. It is a good school but the high school is soo much better

I don't know much about Ralston though, other than they really need to drop some cash on road repairs. They've got potholes and divots the size of bathtubs in places.

Papillion and LaVista are both in Sarpy county and have had great managed growth. Both seem to work very cooperatively together on a lot of items so its healthy growth/competition. Historically Papillion was much better off than LaVista, but LaVista has grown past their issues. I think Papillion is slightly lower on their city taxes, tend to have better parks and recreation for residents.
Ralston is in Douglas county and therefore has always had an Omaha annexation looming over it... the gentlemen's agreement has always been that if Ralston didn't push their boundaries and try to challenge or imped Omaha, that Omaha would leave them alone. I also like Ralston and have lived there.
I have experience with both the Ralston and Papillion/LaVista schools - both are good... wouldn't hesitate to put my kids in either one, but if had a choice I would probably go for Papillion/LaVista schools.

Memorial Park hosts concerts and is a great place for recreation. Intersections like 50th and Underwood point out the great community feel when you have a collection of business surrounded by residential with only good mom and pop stores with a rare chain store. We've got Dundee Days, and other neighborhood events that only draw us closer. We have tree lined streets with flowers hanging from the old time lamp posts. I feel like I live in a place that is still Omaha, but it is also it's own entity, which isn't a feeling I think I'd easily find in West O. And I'd also think it's be harder to meet your neighbors sometimes when they live across 6 lanes of traffic. Down here we have easy traffic flow, on a lot of much more managable friendly two lane roads.

Like I said, I might be flat out spewing lies. Fact is, I don't know with some of these things, so I'm more than willing to be told otherwise. Can you disprove my other arguements, like not much to do, or no sense of individuality? I'd like to hear what the area has to offer in that reguard.

On the contrary... my neighbors and I are entirely isolated from the '6 lane' roads which traverse west Omaha... most of us live on quiet culdesacs. Contrast that to older neighbhorhoods in eastern Omaha where the major arteries pass -right through- the neighborhood. The stately trees and homes lining Farnam to the east of Elmwood Park, for example... belie the safe crossing which a child might choose to make across these streets. There are no such major streets passing through most suburban neighborhoods... kids in my neighborhood can play in the street circle all day long without so much as seeing a car until evening time. And let's see how long it takes someone from west Omaha to drive to retail... vs some one in east Omaha (because they sure as heck aren't going to walk to it... it doesn't exist).
Ma and pop stores at 50th and Underwood ? Downtown Dundee... it's a great 'destination' for dining... but let's face it, the every day retail which the average person needs just isn't there... ANYWHERE in east Omaha... outside of the occasional Walgreens/supermarket.
The -one- Memorial Park concert which is hosted each year... when it doesn't get rained out... that's a real plus. Heck, out west here, we've got an enormous sprawling park with a boating lake practically in my backyard. The most extensive stretches of walk/bike trails... right here. Good grief... there are Saturday night concerts now being held at both Village Pointe and the Legacy (at a dedicated amphitheatre).

Well we have the chain restaurants and local restaurants, shopping, sports and errrrrrr not much else lol. But as for individuality, I've never really seen cookie cutter neighborhoods here, and mine is really diverse when it comes to the houses.
