If you're coming from San Francisco and were in the middle of nowhere Nebraska at night, it might be uncomfortable. Just like when people from the middle of nowhere Nebraska are terrified of any sizable city that we wouldn't bat an eye at. Either way you're out of your element.

Anyway, what does the rest of Nebraska have to do with Omaha? Personally im a city person, and Omaha was a big enough city for me. I moved on to Portland, OR which isn't much different in size but has alot more suburbs. It's the same thing here, if I drive 30 minutes outside the city im in the sticks, and trust me there are even more country bumkins here than I ever saw in Nebraska.

I went to college in Nebraska, and my wife is from Nebraska.

So please, do enlighten me to my total ignorance of Nebraska.

So then you are familiar with the general mentality of western Nebraska ?
Then you know that I am not making anything up right ?

Where is your wife from and where did you go to school ?

I'm very familiar with the general mentality of rural Nebraskans, yes.

And I'm not interested in telling you either where my wife is from, or where I did undergraduate work.

So you do know that the general, not 100%, but general mentality of people in western Nebraska leans toward the racist side right ?

I think it has to do more with a lack of familiarity with different cultures than anything else, which kind of breeds fear.

By the way, I am sorry I called you Sean Hannity before. I shouldn't have gotten so riled up.

Ditto. I grew up on a farm (not in Nebraska) and had never seen a live black person until I was running at The Drake Relays (30 years and 30 lbs ago). Now I live in a black neighborhood in the black part of Omaha, and love it.

My folks still live on their farm, and I can absolutely promise you that if somebody were stranded near their farm - regardless of their race - they would be helped. In fact, my mom would probably insist that they not leave her house until their bellies were full and they had everything she could possibly think of.

And I think you can find good, helpful people everywhere.

But I don't think that the majority of western nebraskans would be that kind to a black guy.

that is just my personal opinion from having grown up around those people my whole life.

declaring a group of people racist is just as bad as having racist thoughts in many respects. I know quite a few people from the country, they are normal non-racist people. The only racists I know are a couple who live in Regency...
