I have a close family member who will be attending UN-Omaha this fall, and will be living very close to the main campus in Omaha.

The reason I am starting this thread is to get feedback on the neighborhood surrounding the UNO campus. Will she be safe in this area of the city on her own? Is there high crime around there? What is it like at night?

Any information is appreciated - thanks everyone.

My in-laws lived in that area for 60+ years; DH grew up there. It is safe. I'd say it's as safe at night as most any other area of town.

Well that's good to know - but then again I know not all areas of Omaha are safe at night...

My parents live just a few blocks from there - they have no issues.

I would have no issue living in that area.

I lived in the area for 10 years up to about 2 years ago. It's a good, safe area.

I currenly live in that area only a few blocks from campus and will be attending UNO in the fall. I've lived here my whole life and we had one break in, and i hesitate to call it a "break in" only because we left our front door wide open like idiots, and the guy only grabbed my mother's billfold. Outside of that once I had my bike stolen out of an open garage, but I'm pretty sure the house painter we hired lifted it. Just lock everything and you'll be completely crime free. keep in mind these two crimes only happened over a long time period and both were due to my negligence.

last but not least, welcome to the neighborhood! GO MAVS!

Very safe, in my opinion. Lived in the neighborhood for 19 years of my life.

Yes the area right around UNO is safe. - it doesnt get bad until you go way down dodge st. Is she living at the dorms? or in a apartment close by? If its an apartment stay away from Villa Vinee. Look into Loveland Apt. They are very nice but will run you a little bit more cash. Its FAR worth it though.
