ya and if you buy those foofy lattes at any other outlet it'll be in the same category as Starbucks.
The idea that Starbucks is significantly more expensive than other gourmet coffee shops is a myth.

You're right...but too many of one kind of store in the same area won't work. There was just too many of 'em.

Kldrich,
I totally agree that they over saturated themselves...I won't argue with that.
Happy,
If you want to buy a mocalattefratte flimflamcappabrappaChino---tall at another coffee shop you'll be paying similar prices.
As far as supporting local business, do you hold that same standard when you shop at the mall or go to any chain restaurant that exists?? Heck no! Why then should we apply some sort of morality argument to buying coffee??
If you don't like it fine, if you think its too expensive fine, but don't suggest we should not be buying Star Bucks because its not a "local" coffee shop and actually think people won't think you're being hypocritical.

Oh Yeah, I try to buy local business it is kind of hard at times.
Here is a list of place that I support.
Wolners Grocery Meat Dept.
The Mediterranean store
AKI Oriental
Orsis Bakery
Jensen Tire
Scooters Coffee
Woodhouse Lincoln Mercury Oil changes and repairs
Bag-n-Save
Khol's Drug store
It's all about the Bee's
Millard Legion Post.
I realize that the majority of this list is food places, but what else is there to do in Omaha..............EAT!
I even buy candy bars from the kids that sell them in front of the department stores.
.
P.S. You need to switch to "SANKA".

No you didn't, because there is no drink there that costs $6. I currently work at Starbucks (granted, in San Francisco, not in Omaha, but prices are not that much different from market to market -- in fact, I think they are cheaper in Omaha but they add tax there whereas in CA we do not) and the most expensive tall drink is $3.65 (for a specialty Frappucino).
Other coffee shops are not necessarily cheaper. I've found most local/semi-chain coffee shops to be more expensive (by about 5 or 10 cents) on similar items. It gets annoying because when Starbucks is more expensive, then everyone says that Starbucks is so expensive, and when Starbucks is cheaper I've heard people say they're cheaper just to drive local coffee shops out of business.
And people need to stop saying Starbucks sells $5 coffee -- as matt said, coffee there is ~$1.80. They don't sell $5 coffee, they sell $5 triple venti soy caramel macchiatos.

Gotta learn a different language if I'm going to venture from my "normal small coffee" - wonder if I ordered that if they would even understand what I said.
Either way, that flimflam things sounds like it tastes a lot better than that triple soy thing.
Time for a coffee break.

Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.
They should close some Mc D's around town, our waist lines could benefit.

Awsome.
The person who stated that it isn't the same because you support malls and chains clearly doesn't get that BUYING LOCAL/SUPPORTING OMAHA is a lifestyle choice that can be incorporated into most aspects of being a consumer and not just coffee consumption.
