Adoption laws in Nebraska
Does anyone know what I have to do to be legally adopted by my stepfater?? I'm 25 years old and my parents have been married for over 10 years, so I don't think I should have to worry about my bio-father's parental rights. I appreciate any help I can get! Thank you!

Not sure you can be adopted...
... you are over the age of majority so you are now your own guardian. The primary purpose of adoption is to establish guardianship - you are your own guardian now.
But agree, check with a lawyer.

I'm pretty sure that you can't be adopted since you're over 25. Nevertheless, you could have your name legally changed to his last name, which would be the next best thing. But I would double check with an attorney who specializes in family law.
To get free advice you might contact the UNL or Creighton law clinics. This is something that could be answered very quickly and they wouldn't charge you anything. Heck...even a lawyer in a private firm might answer this for you for free.
No matter what the verdict is on the adoption you can absolutely change your name.

Thank you. I'm not really considering it because I can't take care of myself. My dad has been through a lot with this family and I thought it would mean a lot to him if I tied us together legally. But I'm sure the name change would be just as meaningful! I will try looking into that. Thank you for your responses.

I understood your reasons and I think your dad would be very pleased with the name change.
