But that is the problem, welfare and higher taxes does not help these folks.
It only builds the ever dependant circle of life for these folks.

I do know that some of these folks are disabled and cannot work those are the ones that need more help than other homeless.

Look at it the way I see it. I am just an average Joe trying to make a buck.

I work downtown and see these folks doing nothing all day, smoking, drinking, defecating, harassing others, sleeping, waiting for the free sandwich truck
and migrating back to the shelter for a free meal them back to the GL Mall ready to it all over again.
We have welfare programs all ready in place to help, our taxes have been raised and raised. Government programs do not work!!!!!

When are the Libs going to see that?

Here a history lesson:
America won the cold war against the USSR, Socialism killed it's self the USSR
went broke trying to feed, house, and cloth it own people plus trying to keep up with the USA in a weapons race. WE WON!!!!! Thank God!!!!

Welfare only hurts a Government.

Here try this, can I quite working and you can put me on the ehenningsen Welfare program you can support me with food shelter and clothing.

Put your money where your mouth is.

You can only push people so far before they break. Just remember that crime and poverty go hand in hand. Keep pushing the poor of America, they will snap, and when they do the rich will take the heat. No one likes to feel like they are getting screwed. Once the poor figure out that morals are only another mans ideas [us] rich might be looking down steel.

And being poor isnt typically a "choice" - there are many factors that go into becoming wealthy. Sure there are your very few who get lucky or make amazing finacial decisions ... but the rest go to college ... but how does a poor person pay for something that cost 8k a year in just tuition?

As Warren Buffet once said ... if you are lucky enough to be in the top richest 1%... you owe it to the other 99% to give.

Actually, the government gives some pretty good student loans to the needy. You don't have to pay thousands of dollars up front for school. I worked full time while going to school full-time. I started with a junior college, got my Associate's Degree...then went on and got my Bachelor's Degree. If you want it bad enough, you'll do it.

But if you have the attitude that you can't do it, and the government needs to help you--you'll stay that way for life.

Huh?

I never said that I was morally superior to the rich...

And with that said, you could be rich if you choose to be..

Honestly? I think that's true...for the most part. I really think that the "rich" in America are that way because they work hard for it. Sure, there are some people that inherit money But if you really want to, you can be successful. Even the poor in America are rich compared to most of the world. That's why we have people sneaking across our borders.

Aren't we really talking about 2 different types of homless?

Group 1 that I described above are chronic addicts that panhandle and steal to feed their addictions and aren't in shelters because they can't\won't abide by the rules and quite frankly will almost all be dead in a few years AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ELSE YOU INFRINGE ON THEIR CIVIL RIGHTS TO DO WHAT THEY WANT. Giving them some sandwhiches etc. is a kindness and modest expense to keep theft down while they commit suicide slowly.

Group 2 are the downtrodden, mostly temporary homeless for a variety of reasons and most will get back on their feet with the help of government assistance and charities. This is an excellent government program in my opinion.

Threre are so many programs available for the poor for college. From the government, from private sector, and from the colleges themselves. With just a little bit of EFFORT and WORK most poor students could find the resources to go to college.

We can't feed our own country - but we can go invade other country's to sell the oil to the company dick cheney has such close ties too ... oh sorry i mean we went there to free the iraq people.

When it comes down to it we vote for taxes - neither side does anything major with abortion or any other major moral issue.

Just remember welfare isnt for the poor - its for the rich, anytime you have a unreal balance between the poor and the rich ... the poor start a to fight back. Giving handouts is a way of holding people down, so there life isnt so bad that they want to rebel.
For so many reasons I doubt your read a paper showing the US dollar is worth 10% of what it was 10 years ago. I will ask you for a link but I know you don't have one and will never respond.

P.S. Take some personal responsiblity for the economy, it's 80% private. Personal debt skyrocket (credit cards) under the Clinton administration, but it wasn't his fault (unless you are a partisan nutjob blaming everything on the other party...oh wait...never mind)
