I will be moving to Omaha in the fall and plan to buy a home soon after. I am trying to budget and see what I will be able to afford, but don't know about Utility expenses. I plan on purchasing a house in the 1500-2000 sq. foot range. I'm looking for the average monthly cost of all the basic utilities such as electric, water, gas, cable, internet, and phone.

Depends on the home, the age of the AC/Furnace, etc. I bought a new home 2 years ago, 1500 sq. foot.

Mine runs a little under $100/month each for MUD (gas/water) and OPPD (electric). I'm on the budget plan for both, so we pay 1 amount year round. Of course, if you buy an older house with older windows, less insulation, etc...it might be more. Or, you might pay less--as I like to keep it cold in the summer and warm in the winter--and there are no shade trees in my neighborhood.

I use Cox for the cable, internet and phone, so the 3 together run about $140. You can get it about $20 cheaper for the lowest tier of internet service, and the cable tv might be a little cheaper too if you talk to a customer service rep and get a special deal.
