taxes Belleuve area
I keep hearing how the taxes in Omaha are high. What are they like in the other area towns? Now here in Ct Not in a big city, about 17 thousand people in central ct. Not even the expnesive part of the state. HEre, is what we pay. Our house, tiny 1000 sqaure feet, we pay 3000 per year. Our house will sell for about 160-180k. Our cars we pay about 600 per year for a 99 suv and 02 sedan. We also have state income tax. We also have 7% sales tax .
Also cost of living. For a gallon of the lowest grade gas it is about 2.30 2.33 per gallon. I know housing is much less too. Like I said out tiny house will go for about 160-180 k. Iknow we can get much more house for that same money.
My brother is military and loved it there. When ever they came home, they were shocked at the diffence in basic prices, even groceries. What are some draw backs to the BElleuve area?
Tous this area seems so much more affordable. I just want to make sure we are not missing something.

You're not going to find any bargains... you may save a few hundred on a $200k+ home... at most. Some outlying SID's actually have a considerably higher mill levy than the city of Omaha. And of course it's the school district which is the primary driving factor.
And it is indeed cheaper on the Iowa side of the river... although I've noticed as the years have passed, they are closing the gap quickly... and I think you'll find a comparable home in east Council Bluffs will actually cost a fair amount more than what you can build for in Omaha (presumably due to higher volume construction on the Nebraska side).

Omaha for a 100,000 dollar house ranges from 2,075 to 2,363 dollars in taxes
For a 180,000 home in Omaha area it would range from 3,600 to 4,253 dollars
Sales tax in Omaha does not exempt any clothes and is 7%
Income tax is up to 6.84% in Nebraska, compared to zero in South Dakota and Wyoming.
Taxes in Nebraska are very high and the median housing value is very low due to the number of blighted neighborhoods, newer construction is about the same as any midwestern city.

Still is less for us. We can buy a home for 150k and still have more house, for less money than here. Most jobs for us would be in Omaha
