Future Texan- I would suggest to you to move to the nicer side of Council Bluffs -- (they have much lower taxes -- and the city is in such proximity to Omaha that if it weren't for the state line -- our greedy Mayor would be annexing it.)

Contrary to what people think taxes are NOT any cheaper in Council Bluffs. My mom moved over there thinking it would be and even though real estate taxes are cheaper they pay other taxes we don't have that don't make it any less.

wow! taxes seem to be the big thing no matter where i look....I live in a 1200 sq foot 3 bedroom 2 bath double mobile with a two car garage , on 1/3 acre in a beautiful canyon...and I pay a little over 400 a year in property taxes, thanks to prop 13....so maybe I don't have it so bad...but then, there is no weather...sounds like I would be better off to 'chase' weather a month out of the year instead of relocating...maybe.....thoughts???

AS FAR AS THE FOOD GOES YOUR NOT GOING TO FIND ANY BETTER bbq THAN WHERE YOU ARE AT NOW. Bring me up some Ruby's BBQ Sauce when you get here. Really the food around Omaha is..Just OK.. The town does not have it's own niche. for example Buffalo Wings, Texas BBQ, Good Pizza, Burgers, what it does have is a few places where you can get a good steak,But that can get boring after awhile, and not to mention unhealthy.
The only thing Omaha is Famous for Nationally (food Wise) is the Rueben Sandwich. Funny most places in Omaha do not have a rueben on the menue's.
GODFATHERS PIZZA started here also but since the corpporate sell out it is not the same taiste.

Do what alot of Transplants to Omaha do, have your family send care-packages of your local flavor up every year or so. Or prepare for a bland diet.

You are truly ignorant.

Omaha has plenty of fine places to eat. Earlier this year when the Lion King was in town for a month they interviewed the cast on what they thought about Omaha. They said it was surprisingly "coastal". These are well traveled people from around the world who live in NYC. I'd take their opinion over someone who admittedly said he doesn't go to certain parts of the city.

Omaha certainly does have it's own food niche carved out with steak. I'm not at all a big steak person though so I can't tell you any first hand experiences I've had with steaks.

WARNYOU- It we all get bored with steaks (because everyone eats that all the time) don't you think people in Texas would get sick of BBQ, people in Maine would get sick of lobster, and people in Philadelphia would get sick of Phillies? And ribs, pizza, hamburgers, and Buffalo wings are healthy? As usual your arguments make no sense.

First Off! Never Talk Bad About BBQ!! IF ANYONE GETS TIRED OF BBQ THEN THEY ARE NOT TRUE AMERICANS.
GO BACK TO RUSSIA AND STAND IN LINE FOR A LOAF OF BREAD.

Secondly if a person lived in Omaha all their life they would think that (what you are saying), Us transplants know alot better it is one of those things you can't explain on a forum . The food in Omaha is OK, brought in recipes, and idea's from outside the city.

So if what you are saying is true, why are all the mom and pop restuarants closing up and being replaced with national chain restuarants???
Omaha does not support there own home grown eating establishments.

For example; Famous Daves
Pepper jax's
Jimmy John's subs

Didn't the french cafe just close up too?

Default Where is the Omaha Flavor?

BBQ Sauce from western Nebraska.

wing Sauce from Buffalo, NY

BBQ meatloaf (not pictured Ruby's BBQ Sauce from Texas).

you can say Omaha has Cookies BBQ Sauce, But it has no flavor, more like spicy ketsup
