The Ground Cow

Another favorite spot was around 78h and Dodge Rd. called Rose’s Lodge. It served fried chicken and also chicken and dumplings. Here too the owner may have died years ago and no one was able to keep the business going.

The Ground Cow's owner's son was a classmate of mine back in the '60s. The restaurant was pretty close to our house and we used to eat there often, too. The only item on their menu I never tried was the "Cannibal Cow", which, as I recall, was described on the menu as "a raw patty with a raw egg on top..." They served great burgers.

Don and Millie's!
Great burgers, great Taco Salads, awesome chilli, amazing onion rings, and if you've never had a cheese frenchee you need to try one!
Oh, and everything is made from scratch, from the onion rings peeled, sliced, and breaded, to the chilli, to the frenchees....so while it may seem like another fast food joint, you're getting fresh cooked food.

Favorite place to eat in Omaha
There are many good places. The premier steak houses? Brother Sebastian's, The Charleston, Farmer Brown's, (don't try Mahogany, it's pricey and the quality doesn't justify it); and just across the river in Council Bluffs is the best: Jack Binnion's Steakhouse at the Horseshoe Casino.
Best Italian: Without a doubt, it's Biaggi's.

favorite place I can afford, RUNZA!
favorite place I can only occasionally afford, Flat Iron Cafe, for the atmosphere, or the Olive Garden for the food. I get too confused by all the ingrediants in non-chain resteraunts, but I'm always willing to eat there.

Mexican: El Aguila on 1837 Vinton St sorta near Rosenblatt and the Zoo. Really good sopapillas.
American/pub style: The Upstream (both of them). I don't even drink, but the food is always good.
BBQ: Famous Dave's
Japanese: Kobe's Steakhouse on Regency Parkway
Chinese: PF Chang's (though it's technically a chain, but eh...)
Italian: I miss Mr. C's, even though it wasn't like the greatest ever. Fun experience though.
