I don't know where or how this can be controlled, but something has to give...This is not to take on any candidate but I feel Obama bought the election> In some ways, more power to him, but there has to be a limit. The other races the same. My husband ran for a small, local election in 2004 and again in 2006: I don't want to even tell you what it cost. Lucily the second time most the costs were absorbed by donations. Even then this is crazy....

Way more than needed to be? Probably. I have no idea how you'd regulate less spending. If you put a cap on the candidates spending you'd have all the non-profits like moveon.org running commercials instead of the prez. Or they'd do it under a private citizen's name. You can't regulate that.

It is almost a no win situation, but something does have to be done..

I'm fine with a candidate spending whatever he can raise from private individuals, including his own income. If they want to waste a billion dollars to not even get my vote, fine with me. All this spending goes somewhere... so it's still commerce, which is never really bad. Now getting public funding, that's a different story. I don't want a single dollar of taxpayer money to be spent on a campaign. I could get way more into my reasons why, but I think I'll stay on topic for now.

Regarding Obama and his war chest: Don't fret. He's all about redistribution of wealth. So, I'm sure that any unused money will be immediately redistributed to those in need.
