Default Boy Charged with Manslaughter

Well, I am sure you all heard the story on the news and radio by now, boy shoots and kills another boy with a pistol.

I have few questions that may have not been addressed in the news (go Figuire).

Who owns that pistol?

Why were the boys able to get to it?

Was the pistol registered? City of Omaha Law.....

If it was not Charges need to be brought up?

Yes I know it was an accident, but the parents need to be held responsible for that pistol.

But all the libs want to blame the gun, what they do not understand is that the laws are in place already but still this kind of thing happens all the time.

Let's go after the parents or guardians of that minor. Libs use your laws that you voted for!!!!!!!!!

I guess I haven't seen or heard of this on the news yet. I would be interested in knowing the boys age?

Without knowing any more details than I do my opinion is: Guns don't kill people, people kill people. This is an expression that covers a wide area. Including accidental shootings such as this one. Not knowing the age of the minor sort of makes it hard to leave a comment that is altogether accurate with the incident.

Guns should always be kept under lock and key for one. Trigger locks on all guns at the least, with keys well hidden, out of reach of anyone who does not have business using them. And ammo should be kept in a seperate locked area away from firearms also. And a loaded gun in the house is setting the stage for an unforeseen accident in my opinion. Sure an unloaded gun in a home with intend it is there for protection is useless pretty much I know. But really how many times across this state in the last few years have you read where a gun was used successfully in the home for protection or needed as far as that goes.

I guess if you feel it is needed, would it be that much trouble to unlock a trigger lock, load the gun (leave firing chamber still empty) each evening before going to bed if you really feel the need for that security? After all how much time would take to load and unload it each day? 5 minutes?

And gun safety, with the Nebraska Game & Parks offering hunter safety classes, when a minor reaches the age they should attend these classes if guns are present in the home, whether it be for the sport of hunting or safety. As these classes do a very fine job in teaching gun safety to our youth.

Should the owner of this firearm be prosecuted? If they have left a gun out, loaded, without any trigger lock or whatever, they have contributed to this accident in my opinion. What charges should be filed I am not sure. But they are responsible in the cause of this accident just the same.

A 12 year boy shot a 15 year old boy dead playing with loaded pistol.

He did not know it was laoded, he is going to be charged as a minor accidental.

5-7 people were killed this week in Omaha 11-{9-13}-08, 7-8 were shot and injured.
I lost count.

Who really cares anymore......nothing seems to be working to help the situation in North Omaha.

It's just good business for the News Channels gives them something to do. .

I'm very doubtful whenever shootings are considered "accidental." I truly do believe you'd find intentional homicide behind most "accidental" shootings.

You don't just "accidentally" shoot someone. Kids know by the time they are very young that pulling the trigger of a firearm can result in the death of another individual.

I think in this case it was accidental.

Yes, you would think that kids would know that playing with guns is dangerous.

I am sure the Omaha Public School System has put all the kids through a Nebraska Hunter Safety Program to try to stop this exact sort of thing.

Well, there are mandatory drug sentencing laws on the books. A "use of a firearm" mandatory sentencing law would make more sense.
