Oh BooHoo.

Do you really think that nobody is supposed to disagree with all your outrageous claims?

Do I have to do all the heavy lifting here?

A synopsis of an article in the 'Southern Voice' magazine.

Title: "Firing Gay Workers is Still Legal in Georgia". (Jan. 2, 2009)

The article covers the story of Robin Shahar, an attorney who was summoned to her new boss's office and received the news that she was being fired for being a lesbian. Evidently, her boss (Michael Bowers) found out that her relationship with another woman was being blessed by a rabbi, and she was let go from her job in the Attorney General's office in Georgia because of her violation of the state's sodomy laws. This case went all the way to the Supreme Court and the court upheld the firing.

Georgia is one of 33 states with no protections for gay and lesbian employees, and Shahar's firing reveals the bluntness with which companies and government agencies can get rid of their gay employees. "Fighting job discrimination continues to be one of the top priorities of the Lambda Legal Defense & Education Fund", said Greg Nevins, a senior staff attorney in the Atlanta office of the gay legal group. "Every year it is the category we get the most calls for", said Nevins.

Like someone said in a previous post, just because you don't hear about it all the time, or it's not happening right in front of your nose, doesn't mean that it's not happening. I'm sure that a majority of the gay population hasn't experienced job discrimination, but I can assure you that most gay people I know are aware that they CAN be fired, and trust me, that is something that is at least a little unsettling to gay people in 33 states.

I need a yes or no answer.
Smitty I certainly do..

As for us remaining on this thread, I don't think we need to answer your questions, about what we support or do not support. This is an open board, but again, of course I believe in equal rights for everyone.

So we have two people who have just answered in the affirmative, but we're still hate mongers, or bigots, or whatever over-used word gets thrown at anybody who disagrees with a particular position...

I see the world differently than you. This does not mean that my opinion/interpretation is wrong, it simply means that there is room in the world for viewpoints outside of your own personal little hegemony. Why are you so threatened by that?
See Staci, this is why I have to come on strong on gay issues here in Omaha, I know just how people can be on the Plains, I've lived on the Plains all my life. While you and smith77 are far from the militant they accuse me of being, they still treat you just as crappy as they treat me. The truth is, they don't want to deal with gay issues at all. Yet they somehow feel threatened by us and our quest for equal rights. Thats the subtle bigotry here in Omaha, and like you mentioned, it is tough to deal with.

The problem is not that you're gay.

The problem is that you are relentlessly obnoxious.

What do you not understand about that?

Still not catching on huh?

If I could illustrate a picture book for you, quite possibly you would. Since I do not have the time, nor do I think the contents inside your head would absorb a pre-kindergarten illustration of what some of us have tried to explain to you, I won't.

However, I can reiterate some bullet points for you -

- We have all stated numerous times, in various threads, that we are supportive of gay rights and various protections, to an extent. (Obviously it should not extend itself to the ridiculous equal opportunity crap, and we know it is crap)

- You DO NOT gain support directly from whom you criticize regardless if you are right or wrong

- Your attitude sucks. You remind me of a Jr. high school kid who didn't get to play much on the basketball team and hates everyone from then on out for it. (I guess in your case I should have said cheerleading team or something)

Perhaps I am reading this wrong, but how can you say you are supportive of gay rights when you are not supportive of equal protection under the law? Equal protection against wanton discrimination is the whole point of the gay rights movement.

I guess what I don't understand is the line in the sand being drawn. I keep hearing "we support gay rights but we don't" in many iterations. Its perplexing.
