I'm simply calling BS on this one. A friend of mine and I have been talking about buying dilapidated houses, then fixing and selling them.
Both names on all the papers.
No problem.
We might have to incorporate, for tax purposes, but we'd want to do that anyway.
I'm also calling BS on these claims of "denied hospital visitation rights." It's simply not true. I do business in hospitals all the time - and there is NOBODY that is denied visitation to a non-restricted patient, unless said visitor has a contagious disease. This isn't the 50s, when they didn't let anybody under 15 in the hospitals. It's 2009 now.
In other words, it's high time for people to stop constantly pulling out the victim card. It gets old - especially when it's not true.
I know and you know you are right, but there is no convincing them. Of course NE can't find something illegal if it is a federal law...I am about to give up on this thread, there are a few who will do anything to try and prove their mis-concepted views...
Again, this is not saying I do not believe in equal rights or have a problem with gays or anyone else for that matter (well I have problems with people who break the law) it is just some will play the victim role and actually getting the libs to believe them...

Yeah that's pretty much right.
I'm SO tired of this "hospital visitation rights denied gays" BS. It's such a lie. And the "we're denied legal rights regarding property" claim is also BS. Anybody can legally leave their estate to anybody. All you have to do is get it in writing, and go through the proper legal channels - just like everybody has to do.
Like I've said before, I have a good friend who is a school teacher. He also happens to be gay. He's also an active member of this church. The reason why he is all those things is because he is a PERSON FIRST, not a HOMOSEXUAL FIRST. He's a teacher, not a gay teacher.
Filet, honestly, how do you know? Are you God? Because unless you are God, you are not Omniscient and you cannot know everything that has happened. I'm getting agitated from you saying that all of this is a lie. Did you hear the story of the woman in Florida denied visitation rights to her dying partner? The Doctor SPECIFICALLY said it was because of her orientation, shall I repeat so its not a lie? SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF THEIR ORIENTATIONS! Don't its a lie because you haven't seen it. According to your ideas, terrorists ALLEGEDELY blew up the twin towers, Robert Hawkins ALLEGEDLY killed 8 people, the Jews were ALLEGEDELY killed in the Holocaust, its freaking ridiculous!

Stop crying.
I will again reiterate that I do business in hospitals ALL THE TIME. You can go into any hospital, at any time during visitation hours, and walk right into the patient's room. Shoot, I was at the Clarkson Tower of the UNMC complex just this afternoon. And hey - guess what - nobody hassled me about anything! And I wasn't even displaying my identification. Go figure!
There are 2 times that's not allowed. The first is if the patient and/or their family requests no visitors. And if that's the case with gays, your beef isn't with the hospital now is it?
The second is if there is a high risk of contagious diseases being spread. But even then, you're simply required to gown/mask/glove up.
Now... are you going to continue to argue with me about this? What more proof do you want? Would you like me to take you by the hand, and walk arm-in-arm into EVERY hospital in Omaha, without once being told we can't come in?

Place the brown paper bag over your mouth and nose.

According to the visitor's guides at UNMC, Creighton, and Methodist there are times when only family is allowed to visit...mostly tied to when a patient is in critical condition, dying or otherwise compromised. There is also a stipulation that only parents and grandparents can visit a child in the NICU...and by parents the implication is bio-parents. I have a friend who is concerned about this right now as she is pregnant with her partner's and her first child. It is her understanding that there is a good chance that if anything goes wrong her (female) partner will have no baby visiting rights.
Unfortunately because a gay couple cannot marry existing law does not grant the non-bio mother any parenting rights. The only way around this would be to engage in an adoption process, but this remains illegal for gays in many states because of their legally single status (with states such as Arkansas legislating this as recently as November of 2008). In other words if a gay couple splits the non-bio partner may never be able to see her kids again because most states do not recognise her as having any legal tie to them.
There is also the legal issue of custody of the physical remains. An individual's body is the legal property of their next of kin...usually in the case of a gay or otherwise unmarried couple this inappropretley involves the person's parents or next blood relative. This is the law that drove me into marriage...I wanted custody of his remains damn it! Call me morbid...
And of course there are other issues like health insurance. Allegedly marriage provides quite a social security net.
The fact of the matter is, courts and the law still overwhelmingly favor 'blood relatives' or married spouses over the partners of gays and lesbians. Even wills and legal documents are superseded by 'family law' in most cases. For those of you who are still confounded by the facts, I'm beginning to believe that, in such cases, you have very little understanding of the concept of "the rule of law". So in order to illustrate this concept for you I guess I'll have to 'flesh it out' by offering the following (partial) true story.

Title: Lesbians Denied Hospital Visitation Rights
"Stacey Longbehn and Lisa Pond were ready to depart on a family cruise with their children when tragedy struck. Lisa collapsed and was rushed to a Miami hospital. At the hospital, Janice was told that she was in an anti-gay state and was kept from seeing her partner of 20 years. Lisa lay dying alone with her family just a few feet away in the next room"....
Honestly, I'm not sure what motivates the doubters on this thread, but I'm beginning to believe that it has more to do with personal issues than the truth. If you have a problem with legal rights for gays, then at least admit it. Some of you pretend to be in favor of legal protections for gays and then you proceed to attack those who do. It doesn't make sense, unless you are truly ashamed to admit your opposition; but then again I guess inducing shame in the opposition is something of a victory for the movement.
Title: Phoenix Working on Domestic Partner Registry
.....Phoenix attorney Brendan Mahoney has lived with his partner for 14 years. He said disputes between a patient's immediate family and domestic partner over hospital visitation rights are all too common. On numerous occasions, gay friends have reached out to Mahoney for legal advice when they have been prevented by their partner's family from seeing their loved one in the hospital.
"Usually it happens when the patient is unconscious, a lot of these are very real situations", Mahoney said. "I don't know how many times I get these phone calls. And I don't know how many times I have to tell people there is nothing you can do"....
According to your ideas, terrorists ALLEGEDELY blew up the twin towers, Robert Hawkins ALLEGEDLY killed 8 people, the Jews were ALLEGEDELY killed in the Holocaust, its freaking ridiculous!
Those have been proven in the court of law.
Either way, who really cares? If there are such laws in place that prohibit a gay partner from seeing his/her loved one in the hospital under any circumstances (unless requested by either party), that is the biggest waist of time B.S. legislation there is.
this is another thread that should be closed or allowed to die a normal death. No one is going to change anyones mind, some of us are a little more open than others, most of us are not bigots and are tired of being called that because we do not agree with a few of you..So, this is my last posting on the subject..
The biggest problem, our friend will find some other subject to stir the pot somemore. I shouldn't say another subject, but another way of bringing this back to the fore front.
