Hi,

We are considering relocating to Omaha for professional school and would like to be in the central high school school district for our daughter. Can you tell me what the average 3bdrm/2bath house costs in this area, and what section of town will I be looking in- Midtown? Is this area safe? Thanks!

I've been using www.realtor.com to search listings. For my part, if we go there, we'll live an hour out of town and get something for much less money in a smaller town, if possible. Good luck!

First of all, there aren't exactly "districts" in Omaha - it's all one district, and the high schools are Magnet Schools. However, if you're going to go to school outside your "area", you simply need to petition in. My daughter is at Omaha North, and they now have kids transferring in (by the hundreds) from areas throughout the city.

The area you're talking about is a diversely weird & wonderful part of Omaha. You can go a mile any direction from Central High School and find housing anywhere from $50,000 - $500,000. It's probably considered a little more Downtown than Midtown.

Could you be a little more specific about where you're wanting to land?

DM me if you want to discuss this in a little more detailed manner.

Hey, I will be at Creighton Univ. and I saw that Central High school is almost on the campus it is so close. My husband will be most likely working downtown. Since I am going to be so busy we would like very short commutes. Also, my child will be in middle school for 2 years at first. Any suggestions? How hard is it to get into the school of your choice if you don't live in the area? Specifically central high school, and any middle school you might suggest.

Also, we were hoping to find something in the 170-180k range. We don't need anything big, but safe is a must and 3bdrm. would be nice.

Somewherediff...

The area you're talking about has EXTREMELY easy access from a lot of different parts of the Omaha area. Both Creighton & Central are right off the I-480 Expressway.

If you're looking for a house in the $150,000 range, you should have absolutely no problem finding any number of homes in that area. The Gold Coast & Bemis Park neighborhoods are close, and have a lot of cool old historic homes. Midtown is a nice area.

NPDodge is one realtor. CBS Homes is another.

I've got a good friend who is a realtor, if that will help.

I think you're moving into a good situation - have fun!

Omaha Real Estate For Sale

That's an example of some of the property available.

I am just stepping in to give you a warm welcome to Omaha. All my 4 kids are Central graduates. Norris Middle is a good school, near 42nd and Center. Omaha Public Schools would provide school bus tranportation through First Student.

Thank you to all who posted. You have made me feel very welcomed and excited about moving to Omaha! It is not completely final yet (I'm also considering a school in Chicago burbs) but it looks very promising. I especially liked the link to the house for sale that filet mignon sent. You really can get a lot for your money there, which is very nice, especially with me being in school.

Pick Omaha, you won't regret it. I'm currently dying to get back home. I miss Omaha terribly.
