doesn't matter if it was 30 seconds... that could have been the moment that my 80 year old mother with a walker (but still drives) could have been pulling into the parking lot... you in that spot for the 30 second run would have been enough to realize she can't park, so would have moved on.

Grow up, consider others, pay the fine and get over it.

NO fair!!!!!! I was just running in for a quick bottle of pop.
How is it not fair? There are signs clearly stating that it's a handicap spot and probably state the fine as well.

To make matters worse I got it from a guy who he said he is a volunteer for the City of Omaha Police Department.
How does that make matters worse?

No fair, it's $144.00. So what if I parked there I was only going to be two minutes.
The law doesn't say "handicap parking...unless it's for 5 minutes or less."

What is the big deal!!!!!!!
Nothing, besides showing a blatant disregard for the law and the people who need that spot.

And what's your defense going to be?

that is just not right.
I agree. Your actions were clearly out of line.

What do you think about that?
I think I'm sad that I won't be there to see you make an ass out of yourself in court.

Seriously, the last thing I try to do with people is climb up on some moral high horse, but like others here I have had relatives who were disabled in one way or another so you thinking you can park in a handicap spot just for the hell of it does not sit well with me.

But what's worse is the attitude you display here, as though you are above the law and your total disregard for the needs of others. I can only hope you are young, so maybe when you grow up in a few years you won't completely suck as a human being.

36 eh? Well in that case, unfortunately it's probably too late for you.

The law is very clear. Those spaces are reserved for persons with some form of handicap and the appropriate parking pass. If you lack those prerequisites, then you have no business parking there.

Was anyone hurt? Maybe, maybe not. I wasn't there so I don't know if there were other handicaps spots open and/or if a handicap driver was there .

Also, I think you started this thread for no other reason but to troll. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this incident never happened. I just can't see a 36 year old man coming on here and making the statements you did with a straight face.

I am one of those that has Handicap license plates, one on my car and one on my motorcycle. Yes, motorcycle! I can stand and walk for about twenty seconds before the pain is so excruciating I want to lay down and crawl. On my old motorcycle I was parked in a Handicap spot at the local WalMart. I had only been inside the store for a few seconds when they announced over the P.A. system "will the owner of the motorcycle parked in the Handicap spot please move it".

I was in one of the WalMart scooters so I went to the customer service desk and explained the situation to the clerk. She got on the P.A. and announced " Will the customer who reported the motorcycle parked in the Handicap parking spot please report to the Optical Department. You need your eyes checked. That motorcycle has a handicapped license plate attached." I could hear laughter all over the store when the announcement was made.

Well, I have to confess......I did not park in a Handicap spot.

I wanted to get everyones reaction on Parking in Handicap stalls without the proper placard or the proper licence plate.

You see, I am a Volunteer with the City Of Omaha Police Dept "HCPP" Handicap Parking Patrol.

I was just going through my paperwork from 2008 and totaled 78 parking tickets for the year.

The start of the thread was worded very carefully, what you read was statements that were said to me as I was writting out the citations to the violators. Sometimes they come to the car while I'm writing it.

I am glad to see the reactions that were written, I was thinking of scaling back my volunteer time but after reading the thread I have set a goal to write 100 tickets for 2009.

100.00 fine + 44.00 court costs = 144.00 bottle of pop or pack of smokes.

Or like the one I wrote the other day 144.00 box of laundry soap.

Thanks Everyone.

p.s.

If you would like to volunteer and take the HCPP class............. P.M. I'll send you the information.

Keep up the good work Happy Go Lucky but be careful. There are a lot of crazies out there that would hurt you over a ticket.

What do you think about that?
Are you handicapped? Do you have the license plate, or tag?

If not, DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAP PARKING!
