Angry Handicap Parking spot

I just got a ticket for parking in a handicapped spot.!!!

NO fair!!!!!! I was just running in for a quick bottle of pop.

To make matters worse I got it from a guy who he said he is a volunteer for the City of Omaha Police Department.

No fair, it's $144.00. So what if I parked there I was only going to be two minutes.

What is the big deal!!!!!!! I'm going to fight it, that is just not right.

What do you think about that?

You took the risk, now man up and pay the price.

Agree... what if a handicapped person also just wanted to pop in and quickly get a pop - oops, no place to park...

It was marked, you knew the rules, you took the risk... no sympathy from here.

I agree with the others.

Additionally, I would strongly advise you not to fight it. No judge is going to take your side, and you'll just be wasting your time.

I made it a habit since I was young of not only accosting individuals who parked in handicapped places and telling them off, but of calling (first from pay phones, then from cel phones) authorities to write them a ticket.

Now my DH is handicapped. When you've seen him struggle with his crushed hip and back, walking with a cane, determined to navigate and overcome poorly placed and even slippery and icy "handicapped parking" spots, just to continue some semblance of a quality of life, then you can come back and tell me just how self-righteous you feel. Until then, I hope the judge throws the book at you. Maybe you'll learn a lesson... I wouldn't dream of wishing "handicapped" on anyone, but that might teach you a lesson too.

Or maybe your punishment, instead of a fine, ought to be two months of daily assistance to a handicapped person... be grateful that you can dress yourself, wear what you choose, go wherever you want to go, and have the ability to walk wherever, whenever you want. I pity you in your vast insensitivity and selfish ignorance.

My friend from college was handicapped and was wheelchair bound. When going places with her (to a restaurant, gas station, or to a discount store), I realize how hard it is for her and why the handicapped spaces are for handicapped people. Before knowing her, I had some understading due to my aunt taking care of a lady with cerebal palsy and having to drive a van that has a lift.

I have heard some stories from her of a few people on campus taking the handicapped parking spot or the handicapped shower or stall in the bathroom (and others being inconsiderate and lazy instead of being innocently unaware). I can understand the side of the story on the disabled person's side.

I sometimes see at a Hy-Vee, Target, Wal-Mart, Shopko, or even a convenience store of people who park in handicapped spots who should not be or lack the wheel chair deal to hang on the mirror or wheelchair license plates. I get disgusted more or less.

Yes, sometimes these spots may not make sense when one is in a hurry. But one has the repsonsbility to see if the parking spot is handicapped or not and leave the spot open for a handicapped person who really needs the spot.

I agree with prior posts that you took the risk and accept the consequences (ticket) and learn not to repeat the same mistake in the future.

I just recently got a handicap permit and was surprised how many people have them that can walk, seemingly okay and I have a hard time finding a spot especially at big stores. I realize being handicapped is more than not being able to walk.

I can barely walk with a cane because of bone on bone in my left hip. I am also overweight and unable to use electric chairs or a wheelchair since my left leg well not bend at hip to ride a cart, so I usually end up sitting in car and wife does everything alone.

In past years ago I parked in a handicapped spot and got a 150.00 fine and paid it and never did it again and now realize it more since I'm handicapped also.

In your first post it was 2 minutes... now it's 5. The time sure is adding up, and either way, is plenty of time for a more deserving patron to come by and need it.
