No, not everyone in Omaha is a gauche carnivore (love the wording here!) but that doesn't make it any easier to find really good vegetarian fare.
How are we disagreeing?

The term "clannish" kind of threw me off. I wasn't thinking of it in the context you were using it. And no I wasn't think the hoods and white robes context either. To me it sounded like you meant that everyone was purposefully exclusive. It's probably hard to be a loner anywhere. I don't know what kinds of circles you run in but it sounds like you need to find some likeminded people stat!

In other words, DTO is offering to take you out and explore his Omaha.
I think he said he would pay for dinner and drinks too...

LOL! I'm sure her husband would be cool with that. Some strange man online taking his wife out on a date.

I tend to agree with DTO here. Staci, I realize you are from CA. Have you ever lived anywhere else? My point is, is this the first time you've lived in a place other than CA?
The reason I ask is that no matter where you move it will be an adjustment. I could move to CA right now and probably have a similar experience to what you are experiencing. I tend to think, in the context you are using it, that human beings by nature are "clannish."
That said, if you don't have a group of friends in Omaha then I can understand why you tend to have a dislike for the city.

Actually I have lived lots of places: Michigan, Oregon, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London. But honestly I don't tend to meet many people anywhere I've lived. Its just the way I am I guess.

I find Omaha boring. It all depends on how you define recreation and what your priorities are. If you're a vegetarian foodie, for example, you're screwed. If you value hiking surrounded by nice weather and natural beauty (as DTO pointed out) you're screwed. If you know a bunch of people here, like steak, are clannish, and want a nice quiet place to raise tomatoes and kids you will do OK.
Seriously, the best tomatoes I have ever grown were here.

I think you just answered your own question, Stacy.
Some people want the same, moderate temperatures all year round; there are however many, many people including myself that do not want that type of weather. Many of us love having a winter with snow and cool weather, a spring with varying changes of weather with towering-spring weather. A warm summer, and a graceful and beautiful fall.
I understand your sentiments about mountains; I however find them much, much more of a nuisance than appreciate them. I am perfectly fine with the rolling hills, the walking and biking the way it is here.
Our food is very well respected around the country, except for maybe the very small organic niche market. Even then, we have several organic niches.
Beyond that, there is no reason to believe that Omaha is boring. We have 3 arenas used for sports, concerts and shows. Several world-class entertainment venues. We have three casinos, a dog-racing track, we have a lot of outdoorsy area's nearby including a top notch canoeing river in the niobrara river. We have a Bass Pro Shop, a Cabela's and a camping world. We have many, many private beaches. We have one of the highest amount of golf-courses per capita with PGA type of events. We are going to have one dedicated AAA baseball stadium and another downtown stadium that is expandable to 40,000 seats (average MLB sized), we have a few of the nations most respected nightclubs and live music scenes..
And much, much more..
My advice is the next time you search for a city that won't make you bored then you are just hurting yourself with any city without a mountain..

Well, I suppose you just need to get yourself out there, although being pregnant might hinder that.
Also, don't you eat fish? So your not a complete vegetarian.

To be honest Stacy, I feel kind of sorry for you. Please don't take this wrong - as though I'm condemning you or something - but you don't seem to be a particularly happy person. I do hope your new baby brings lots of joy and fun into your life!

Stacy, do you think your child will EVER be able to forgive you for giving birth to him/her in the state of Nebraska?!!! Man, what a life-long stigma for someone to have to bear. (Think about it, we can change a lot of things about ourselves, but you can never change your place of birth!)
Here's a particularly horrifying scenario for you: Your baby springs forth from the womb wearing bib-overalls, clinging to a hunting rifle and yells, "I hate gays! Now take me to the nearest steak-house, Mom!"
