Can't understand why anyone would have that much cash in his wallet, but regardless, it is a wonderful story and shows there are good people on this earth..

I have. Along with my savings account book. One of my close friends has a business in Council Bluffs and at that time lived there. Getting out of my car, and grabbing the handbag out of my car, somehow the book with a few hundred dollars fell out on the street in front of his house without me noticing it. That next morning I discovered it was missing. Over the night one of Tim's neighbors saw it lying on the street. Putting 2 and 2 together and seeing it next to a car with an out of state plate. The kid who found it gave it to his dad, who made a couple phone calls and tracked down where I was staying. I met up with both of them the next day. I was blown away by the honesty.

I shouldn't have. I make that trip a couple times a year. Some of the best people I have met are heartland people. I gave the boy $20 to keep for himself and gave him another $20 to give to his Dad. They were on their way to a boy scout function, Dad being a scoutmaster. I told the boy to tell his Dad to take the troop out for burgers.

Honesty. That was one of the first things I learned when I was a scout. When I got home days later I wrote a letter to the Council Bluffs paper (the Nonpareil?) and shared my experience. Got printed too!

Awesome story! When I was about 6 or 7 years old and living in Omaha, a UPS driver dropped his wallet in our lawn after delivering a package. I found it and gave it to my dad who made some calls and tracked down the driver who came back to get it. He also gave me $20 for my honesty and that really instilled in me that honesty can be good for everyone involved.

I used to ride an enduro and rode it to the bank to cash my paycheck on our lunch hour. Other folks from work were there and we sat on a low tree limb for a while chatting. My wallet fell out of my back pocket and I didn't notice it until I got off my bike at work. I raced right back and saw two guys who looked like H.A. type of bikers standing in the parking lot holding up my wallet and waving at me when I was looking about for it. I had $750. in it and it was all there when they handed it back to me. I gave then a reward for being such great guys. They were even late going back to their jobs to wait for me to return and claim it. That was in San Diego.

nope and I bet 90% of the American people never carried that much cash at once. There would be absolutely no reason, again, good the the person who was honest..

I think once or twice I may have had $1000.00 from the savings in my wallet for about 10 minutes from the bank to AAA to buy Travelers checks:

I've paid $2000 cash for a vehicle, because that's what the seller wanted. I have also sold vehicles for cash. Most private sellers I've bought cars from in the last 10 years have preferred cash over a check.
