I would agree with Nita. People tend to get this idea that we just recently have become entrenched in the two party system. This is not true. Our country, from the outset, has had two parties that have constantly opposed each other. In fact, even prior to the U.S. of America there was constant struggle between the Republicans (not the same as today's republican party!) and Federalists in trying to decide what form of government we should even have!
Having two parties is simply another check in our system.
The problem isn't the parties. The problem is the PEOPLE! We are a horde of ignorant and sensation loving idiots! If we would actually vote people into power on the basis of their ability and quit worrying about ridiculously superficial issues a lot of these problems could be resolved. Further, the average voter knows far far far more about the contestants on American Idol then they do their own government and the issues of the day.
The public wants to blame the politicians, and if that fails they want to blame the media. Well, the public should blame themselves! I just thank god we don't live in a true democracy and there is a little insulation between the masses and the controls of the country.
As far as Bush having the worst administration, that is absolutely NOT something that can be judged now. Say hypothetically Iraq turns into a flourishing democracy and transforms the dynamic in the Middle East? Only time will tell how good or bad Bush was.

A lot of political parties have come and gone over the years (Whigs, Bull Moose, etc.) The people have basically determined that they want Republicans and Democrats. I agree that we are to blame for our politicians. I mean, we are the ones who vote for them.
I think a lot of people say that they want politicians who are honest, but don't really mean it. If the politicians were truely honest with us, people would be screaming everywhere because they have been offendend by this Senator or that Governor. Poliiticians act the way that they do because that has proven to be the way that people vote for you.

Americans did revolt (peacefully) last November. At least I don't have to cringe in embarrassment anymore whenever the president opens his mouth.

Did you hear Lou Dobbs? He said that the US could paid off all the foreclosure's and have enough money left over for a millions jobs @50,000 a yr. can anyone tell me who is going to be getting these jobs? The four millions jobs Obama is going to create is all Goverment jobs. Everyone better hopes this fails. I can not see giving money to ACORN. How about 650 million for converter boxes for tvs. This bill stinks

Why
If it wasn't for the tel-a-prompter all you would hear would be an-um,ur,um,um.i,. He already screwed-up. His words. Just cringe when he attacks a private person.

The question and answer period had no teleprompter. Did you even watch the press conference? I thought he handled himself brilliantly. He has a nimble mind and I thought he was very well informed. It's refreshing to have a president who can hold his own at a press conference or a at a town hall meeting. Our last president just strung a bunch of bumper sticker slogans together and kept repeating them. He mangled the English language and made up words that didn't exist (like 'misunderestimated', et. al.). Our last president's handlers demanded that all questions asked by the press be submitted ahead of time, so his staff could feed him the right bumper sticker slogans. Participants at our our last presidents' rallies were carefully chosen so as not to include anyone who disagreed with him or, god forbid, ask embarrassing questions. Dissent was virtually non-existent. In short, our last president lived in a very tightly controlled bubble.
In contrast, our new president hasn't surrounded himself with 'yes' men and women (three of the his Cabinet members are Republicans), and he seems to be open to listening to dissent. His recent question and answer periods at his rallies in both Indiana and Florida had several dissenting questions from the opposition. This is the way a president should conduct himself in public. This is how mature adults with real leadership skills operate. This is how real democracies work. Is he going to screw up from time to time? Sure, who doesn't.

Even though Thomas Jefferson endorsed the idea of an occasional revolution being beneficial to any country, it will never happen again, not here. I've read hundreds of true crime books and I can see it all too clearly how a full-fledged revolution could never get started here again.
Everything you post on this website can be accessed by the Government. Be careful what you say on your cell phone, it may come back to haunt you one day. They can even trace your movements through cell phone towers, whether or not you're using your phone or not. Anything you deleted on your computer is NOT deleted, they can retrieve your deletions. I've discovered all this just through reading true crime books. It's sad, but there's no hiding anymore. But if you think it's bad here, just try England, it's worse over there with surveillance cameras EVERYWHERE!
Yes, when angry, the Europeans know how to get the Government to listen, as well as our many neighbors to the South. I was in Argentina last April, with road blockades all over the country. A couple years before that I was in Bolivia, encountering road blockades there as well. What a better way to get the Government's attention. Down there, to those I spoke with, they're surprised that we don't do that up here, but they just don't understand that Big Brother has become omnipresent in our country and we are left to only daydream about blocking the roads into our capitals. If someone today is going to try to get the Government to listen, it's not going to be a crowd of people, but, most likely, a single individual, a loner, with no accomplices, as history proves.
Someone wrote a book last summer implying that Americans are the most stupid voters in the world. I agee, and once the stupidity goes, big changes will come.
