Default Searching for Omahans displaced by I-80, I-480 and the North Freeway

Greetings,

I am working on a master’s thesis exploring expressway and interstate planning in Omaha from the mid-1950s through the 1980s and how freeway projects changed Omaha's neighborhoods.

I am searching for individuals and families who lived in the paths of I-80, I-480, the North Freeway and the canceled West Expressway. I would like to interview homeowners, business owners, and property renters along built freeways or proposed freeway corridors. I am especially interested in hearing from people who were forced to relocate for freeway construction and can recount how they (or their family members) were affected by the move.

If you or someone you know was displaced by Omaha’s freeways or lived in proposed freeway paths, please consider contacting me at ndswiercek [at] hotmail [dot] com. I would love to hear yours or others’ stories.

cheers,
Nicholas Swiercek

Well, it is said that the reason North Omaha is as bad as it is today is because of the North Freeway.
