First of all welcome to Omaha. I think you'll like it here.
I think you'll find that Omaha is different than a bigger version of Bismark or Sioux Falls. Omaha has more people than the states of North Dakota or South Dakota.
Blight is when a place has gone into severe disrepair. Omaha doesn't have true blight. (See Detroit for blight.)
Also Nebraska, especially Omaha, is not at flat as you would think. Omaha is VERY hilly. If you like forest there are some pretty good parks here for that. Neale Woods just north of the City and Fottanelle Forest in Bellevue.
I'll respond a little bit more when I get home from work.

Missouri river level
My next question deals with the missouri river. Here in Bismarck, the missouri river and lakes it feeds are at extreme lows. Some cities that use the water for consumption are out of water. The Corps of Engineers keep releasing the water to feed barges down in Nebraska. Is this a big industry? Is the river at a decent level there? And back to my original question earlier, does anyone know daycare rates?

Oh and I forgot, what kind of hunting seasons do you have there. I mainly do pheasant, antelope and deer hunt. Is it easy to find land to hunt? Things are getting posted up all over here in ND. Still alot of areas to choose from.

Hi, I like lakes too. There are two lakes: Lake Zorinsky and Standing Bear Lake. The first is very big and a walk around for exercisers and bikers. Standing Bear Lake is somewhat smaller but has a nice park good for picnic. People love fishing there.
There is a system for rating restaurants called Omaha's Best. I am not sure but I believe the Omaha Herald rates them. I usually found them to be right on target.
My favorite restaurant was The Mongolian Buffet. Ugh, I still miss it. I know it sounds crazy because it is just Chinese food, but this place was the best. It seems they won the award for 2007 as well.

The one I went to was 3506 N. 147th Street. I can't say what the other one is like.
The restaurants in the Old Market are the most expensive where you would pay 100 per couple. It is still nice to go there. Just look at the menu for affordability. My favorite was Ahmed's, but that is arabic food. Maybe it would be 60 dollars? Not sure if you will like it, but they had some good chicken plates there.
ADD-ON: You have children. Ahmed's might not be good for you. It is more a couple place. But the Mongolian Buffet is sure to be your family's favorite.

Omaha is too big of a place to let it run out of water. I'm not quite sure I get your question.
I don't hunt but I know Pheasants Forever had their convention here last year so I'm guessing we have some sort of area for it in Nebraska. Omaha also has Cabela's and Bass Pro (actually in Council Bluffs.)

Fargo. 210,000
Sioux Falls. 225,000
Bismarck. 97,000
Omaha. 870,000
I think you'll find a bigger change than what you're used to if you move. Especially living in west Omaha. Traffic will be much more noticable. It's not bad and I'm not trying to scare you but it will be different. Have you ever been to Omaha?

snowblind9,
Your hunting needs for deer you just have to go south of Omaha about one to two hours and you will find all the deer you will want. As for pheasants the best hunting is in the southwestern corner of Nebraska from Superior to the Nebraska and Colorado state line. This area is mainly the Republican River Valley. You will find a very large public hunting area around Alma Nebraska. There is also the second largest lake in Nebraska here as well. You can check it out on line by typing in Harlan County Lake in the search engine. The wild turkeys are everywhere now and growing so even getting a turkey you will not have far to travel.
Just like when you move to a new area you will have to make contacts with new people about hunting on private property or find out where you can hunt on public land. You can find out where these lands are by getting one of the books that most stores where you can buy fishing and hunting licenses at. Wla-Mart in Nebraska all sell licenses and also will have these books as well. At one time they were free, but don't know about now.

Are there any near this area of my work? What rates are preschool or daycare rates go monthly? I have an 8 and 4 year old. When I lived near Minnesota, I loved driving for hours around the lakes and forests. Is there much as far as scenery to drive through? Realize that I grew up and lived in ND my whole life. The flat plains are not new to me. Not to seem to naive, but what is blight? I read about it on several posts stating that Omaha has areas of blight. From what I read it sounds like Omaha is a larger version of a Fargo, Sioux Falls, Bismarck type city. We are not into going to bars and nightclubs. Dont care for the nightlife. Got Kids. It seems that Omaha has quite an array of special restraunts. When I visit, what restraunt do I need to visit above all others? Please don't list if my food will run over $100 for a couple. I have many questions but will wait if I get the job.
Mattden please dont respond to this, I don't respect your opinion.

Hello...I gotta laugh at asking Matt to stay away!!
I'm in Elkhorn which is about a 15 minute drive to Oakview. My daughter goes to Building Blocks preschool 3 mornings a week from 9:00-11:30 and I pay $90/month. I can't help you with call centers. I used to work at one which was around 90th and Maple which is about a 20 minute drive from me.
Also can't help w/ daycare prices as I'm a SAHM. Let me know if you get the job and I can assist you however I can in your relocation.
I am relocating as well to the Pacific Northwest but will miss this area. It truly is very family friendly and a great place to raise kids! Good luck!!!!
