Can you waterski on the Missouri River or is it too dirty?
A potential newcomer has some silly questions...
Can you waterski on the Missouri River or is it too dirty?
Is the river shallow in places so that the boat prop hits the
bottom??
Are biting bugs a problem when you are boating on the river?
Thanks
Tom

The answer is yes...However, it's not always very safe after heavy rains from Omaha north up the river. The rains will push sticks and logs which float down the river.
As for dirty, it's not really that bad. A lot of people tube and ski on the river. I have many times.
The river as pretty deep. Your prop will never hit. There are a few spots where it could, but they are marked off.
Never heard of biting bugs.
Hope this helped.

Anytime we're out the depth finder has it between 20-60ft depending on where your at. It seems to get a bit deeper the further south you go until you hit the Platte.

Bosco,
The Missouri River has barge traffic running North past Omaha as far as I know. The Corps of Engineers has a minimum depth of 12 feet I believe as the standard for barge traffic. That would be in the main channel. I may be off a bit on that 12 feet but I am sure they have the information on a website somewhere.

Thanks for the quick replies...
I was asking about bugs that bite.. Sting.. Leave welts on your arms after they leave..
Biting Bugs as in... Biting mosquitoes... BITE / BITING
So how bad are they on the river? Is it a major problem like Minneapolis and places like that?

Yes, there are mosquitos. Promblem...I've never heard of it being a problem, but they are certainly here in the summer.

Biting bugs if you are referring to "toe-biter bugs" I haven't had any problems with them on big rivers. I've found them more in ponds and slow moving streams. I've never seen them as the giants they can get out in the field. The zoo has them full-sized on display, though!

feast away leaving welts on your arms etc..
