I love access to the burbs and all the retail, I just don't want to live in the thick of that. And, I love being 10mins from the "hip" part of town, but didn't want to live directly above Mister Toad's, either! We're very excited about our home and the decision we made to live kinda in the middle of things.

My wife and I used to live six blocks from Aksarben Village, on 56th and Walnut. That is a great neighborhood and it will only get better as more of Aksarben Village is built. Also, you are right next to the keystone trail which connects to a bunch of other trails in the Omaha area. Great for biking and rollerblading, etc. Also, Wohlners grocery store moved there a few months ago which is a cool one location local grocery store that has a nice selection of food and a cafe inside.

I think you will be very happy there. My dh and I lived in midtown when we were newlyweds and it is a great area that is only getting better.

I second the motion.

I think they'll be very happy about their close proximity to the Interstate as well.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. That line pretty much invalidated everything else he said.

Um, I grew up in West Omaha (Armbrust Acres, specifically) in the early-mid '80s, and my (high school-age) brother had *two* Indian friends in our neighborhood (and my brother didn't have that many friends period.. heh) who, needless to say, attended the same high school he did (Millard North back then - it would be Millard West these days). In fact, one of them lived next door to us.

What may shock you even more is that I myself am biracial - white father, black mother (yeah, my siblings and I were one of just a few black kids in the neighborhood, but it was *never* an issue). So - I'm getting the sense that you might be bringing a prejudiced attitude to the area yourself, rather than having a legitimate concern about 'prejudice' you'll experience once you arrive.

The neighborhood we moved to in Southwest Millard is more racially diverse than the midtown neighborhood we lived in prior. Broad generalizations are never true, honestly the town should be looked at in a street by street basis, not by entire sections of town.

Default Agree with Alicia!!!

I grew up in West Omaha and Millard as well and sorry that I am a blue-eyed blonded haired Scandinavian.. Wow!! I never thought of myself as prejudice and it certainly offends me when people mention West Omaha as being the area with all the "white folks" as if we moved there because we only wanted to live around white people. My family lived there because of the school systems and because it wasn't as crowded back then (70's and 80's. Excuse me for being white... Can't help that, take it up with God

I have many friends from different nationalities. I agree with Alicia. Be careful that you don't become prejudice yourself trying to avoid it...

Hopefully you will find what you are looking for...

I have seen more ethnic and variety of people in 1 hour in L.A then in 4 months in Nebraska.. I think I saw 3 black people that were not related to my wife. It is a culture shock, but with the right attitude I hope you will be fine!!!

Who knew you'd find more variety in a city of 8 million than you would in a state of under 2 million?

Bruce said it best. It's all about attitude. If you generally dislike being around white poeple, you will generally dislike Nebraska.
