Question Where are the best K-12 schools in the Omaha Metro?

Where are the top public (and private) schools/districts in the Omaha Metro?

Does anyone know why Nebraska schools do not provide enough school information for US News & World Reports to rate NE schools in their Best High Schools rankings? It makes it hard for people moving to Omaha to determine where the highly rated schools are in Omaha, if any (that would be hard to believe).

Bottom line: I'll be moving up that way from the Houston Metro and schools are a priority for me to place my 8 year old.

I went to Fontenelle Elementary and loved it. I had relatives who graduated from North High and Benson High and they loved their schools as well.

Omaha North High (I am a 1998 grad of there) is a good high school.

every HS in Omaha IMO has its plus and minuses so I cant really say what the best is cause all have good things

and a bad thing or two with them.

I went to King Elementary and Western Hills and Washington Elemntary and Kellom for elemntary school

(dont know if they are still good schools, but they were good schools back in the 1980's)

I went to Omaha North from 1993-1996 and overall, it was an excellent experience. At the time, I was considering architecture as a career and they were one of the few high schools in the state to offer a four-year program in Computer Aided Drafted. Towards the end of my junior year, I got involved in newspaper and yearbook and ended up going to UNL as a journalism major. Omaha North had one of the great journalism departments in the state as well. I and a coupled of others from the staff went to state competition to compete in journalism. As a magnet school, they have great science and technology departments. The surrounding area is less than desirable but not as bad as people may lead you to believe. I've never had an issue going to my car, driving home, or even grabbing lunch from someplace nearby. Most people that trash the area don't go there so I wouldn't listen to them. I've always treated people nicely and they did the same.

For junior high school, I went to Nathan Hale and it seemed to be a decent school. Not real sure how it stacks up against the other's but it was near my parents house. For elementary school, I went to Springville and found it to be a good experience as well. All three schools are probably further northeast than you plan to move to but I would definitely encourage you to look into Omaha North if you're still in the Omaha metro area.

Any questions, feel free to send a PM.
