I would like to see Downtown Omaha more alive at night.

the businesses and buildings around 16th street are either empty or closed around 8 pm at night.

The 16th street corridor is a great area with tree lined streets but there doesn't seem to be much activity, other than King Fong's or The Orpheum.

It would be really nice to see more in the downtown area at night besides bars even though it's good for my business. I think a lot of people downtown would like to see the expansion also.

I think so too, especially along 16th street by the Orpheum. It seems like kind of a dead area. Where do you get most of your business, Baratta?

The obstacle with 16th street is the parking, as well as the area being a main bus hub.

Off hand, I would say the majority of my business comes from corporate contracts/vouchers with regulars and calls next(50/50), and then bar rushes making up the rest.

Downtown Omaha to remain strong

Omaha.com - The Omaha World-Herald: Metro/Region - Downtown Omaha to remain strong

BTW:

did I read that write about the Civic Auditorium and the Downtown Library being torn down and replaced by

for potential high-rise office developments.

That's what the master plan has. Only time will tell if that comes into fruition. The library would be a great site for a new high-rise, IMO.

I'd be in favor of moving the library because of how un-pedestrian friendly the building is. The entire library is surrounded by a moat.

I'm not sure where a good place for the library would be, but I'd be fine having one remain downtown(ish).
