Fireworks in the Omaha area on the 4th of July
We are going to be in Omaha over the 4th of July. We were hoping to go to the Royals' game and watch the fireworks, but I have just discovered that show is going to be Friday night, July 3. I don't think we can be in Omaha in time for the game (coming from Denver area), and besides, we want to see fireworks on the 4th. July 4 is also our daughter's birthday. Does anyone know of any fireworks displays on the 4th? We will probably be staying in LaVista or Papillion. Google has not been of much help.

Dave would be a good one for this. He's pretty up-to-date with the "happenings" of the Papillion/La vista area.

Otherwise they have fireworks downtown, I think ConAgra does something too.

On the 4th if you are in the Papillion/LaVista area then the thing to do is RALSTON.
They have a great traditional hometown parade that starts around 1pm(arrive early to figure out a spot to park and a place to sit) - winds though town beginning in a residential area and ends up downtown... people sitting on the street curb, sitting in peoples yards, great traditional type parade - and high quality - its been going on for better than 40 years so they draw good entries...
Later that evening RALSTON has fireworks as well... generally a very good show.
Here is a link to the City of Ralston
From their website:
Children's Parade, 10:00 am
Patriotic music at the gazebo, 11:30 am
Independence Day Parade, 1:00 pm
Fireworks at dusk, approx. 9:30 pm

Wow! Thanks a lot Dave. We are going to some restaurant for lunch (can't remember the name) to celebrate MIL's 90th, then the rest of the day is ours.
Thanks to everyone!

Just be warned that parking is crazy and if you are late finding a place to sit to watch can be tough (but we usually stand anyway)...
Parade entries line up along 80th, 81st, 82nd, and 83rd streets heading onto and also Highland heading onto 80th... so 80th/Highland is really the starting point then turns onto Oakwood, then Miller Ave, then Main St... that combination of streets is the main road that snakes thru town... Prior to Miller Ave is residential after Miller Ave is downtown/commercial...
I like being in the residential area best but that's also where its harder to get a place to sit and watch.

My fiance and I usually go to the Ralston Fireworks at least two hours early. We park on 72nd street a few blocks south of Q street in the strip mall, facing west and then set up our chairs right in front of the car near the sidewalk. Then you can turn on the radio to whatever station is broadcasting the music for the show (I think its a country station?) so you can have music to go with. Its a big show... you will not be disappointed!
