I agree wholeheartedly with tigerswede above, but would clarify his "east of 60th, north of dodge" range. The Gold Coast area between 40th and 38th just north of Dodge is full of historic mansions and very nice homes. It's very safe and a charming little area...

Florence also isn't "North Omaha" either. Then again, "North Omaha" is a very generic term that has never really been defined.

The Hillside I know is east of 78th, west of 72nd, north of Dodge and south of Blondo. Hillside elementary is there as well as the Hillside little league baseball fields. Maybe there's more than one Hillside though...

I think you're right. I got the Hillside neighborhood mixed up with the old Hillside Mansion, which was in Gifford Park.

Milard is safe but I always found it 'bla' in terms of ambiance and charm, every neighborhood has that suberbia look and feel. There are a lot of safe places east of 72nd, as may have mentioned. Some of the more historic ones would be Field Club, Dundee, Benson and Aksarben/Elmwood Park areas. When you get to the Gold Coast areas you'll find many big beautiful homes although it's not as safe but still not bad. I know many who have lived there for years, never had a problem and loved it.

Personally I find many neighborhoods in south omaha to be safe. Many in the far south east parts away from the cbd and west to near ralston are rather nice. Anything close to the CBD and north of there is simply gang town and should be avoided unless you enjoy graffiti.
