This is probably incomplete and in no particular order, but, in the spirit of POSITIVITY I just wanted to share with everyone some reasons why I am perfectly content to live in the Omaha area:
  1. A world class Zoo that is involved with worldwide conservation efforts
  2. Easy access to both city and country living
  3. Farmers markets
  4. Thunderstorms
  5. Oktoberfest at the German American Society
  6. River City Roundup
  7. Shakespeare on the Green
  8. Roadside produce stands
  9. the changing seasons
  10. affordable college classes and continuing education classes at Metropolitan Community College
  11. Omaha Hot Shops
  12. Living within walking distance from a 160 acre restored prarie grassland preserve
  13. An airport where you don't have to arrive 3 hours before your flight
  14. a relative feeling of safety in most areas on all sides of town
  15. College World Series
  16. Local wineries
  17. Local breweries
To be continued... I'd love to see some lists from others!

You just ruined too many people's day. You are suppose to be completely illogical and create illusions of a barren, communistic city.

I would add to this list:

1. The College World Series
2. Lots of awesome restaurants (like Daily Grub, Orsi's, and California Taco).
3. Berkshire Hathaway and the annual meeting
4. A walkable downtown
5. A good post office
6. Directly on the California Zephyr route to Chicago or San Francisco
7. Nebraska Furniture Mart
8. Marcus Midtown Theatre's where you can eat and watch a movie
9. Ethanol added to the gasoline
10. The pedestrian bridge over the Missouri River

My god, I agree with a MountainMen post!!!

Anyway I would add

1. increasing bicycle friendliness
2. relatively good mannered people
3. a good bus system (It get me where I need in a timely fashion)
4. ALDI!!!!

That's about it really, other that what has been covered.

Thanks!! Awesome!! We will definitely plan to visit the hot shops!

Thanks to everyone for listing all the Omaha positives. My husband will be in town for an interview soon and it's very helpful to be sitting here on a Saturday afternoon thinking about all we can do if/when we move there.

I tend to stay south, so the list is a little less urban.
Mahoney State Park
Soaring Wings Winery
Sumtur Amphitheatre
SAC Museum
Weiss's Art Garden and Springfield's Artworks (great people - pair this visit with the Winery!)
Walnut Creek Rec Area (love the place at sunset)
