Concerned Parent Over Nebraska Gangster Rap
Good citizens of Omaha,
Not to long ago I made a posting on Lincolns forum about a troubling rap group from Lincoln Nebraska. I expressed my concern over the content of the “Gangster” rap group’s lyrics and suggested community members ban together and take action. Instead what I ran into was many people supporting this group “Dem’ Lincoln Boyz” and even accusing my posting as a viral marketing attempt. I urge you all to visit their myspace and listen to their violent music. I am not concerned about sending traffic to their site because it seems few people visit their myspace. But the music on their site needs to be heard because it shows the type of violent individuals, which reside in our states cities and their efforts to influence our youth through music. As a community we need to do something and hopefully this post can start a much needed public discussion as to what should/can be done.
Thank you all for your time and hopefully as a community we can take action.
Listen to their music yourself and you will see why as a Lincoln resident I am concerned: Dem’ Lincoln Boyz on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
I only hope this violent trend of gangster rap culture can be eradicated in our city and stopped from spreading to yours

Yeah like Omaha doesn't have it's own rappers. This is a terrible place to promote your group BTW.

I am not promoting anything. Not only do I hate their lyrics but on a different level their music is horrible. I only posted a link to their site so people could have a reference as to what I am talking about. I do not support the group and am offended of such accusations. I am simply trying to stimulate an open dialogue concerning the issue.

Even if we don't like it, what are we supposed to do about it?

"As a community we need to do something..."
Like what??
Do you suggest we censor it? Ban it? How about we go burn all the Mark Twain books while we're at it too? In fact, while we're at it let's just ban all music and books that we don't like. Better yet we should be the ones who choose what music and material is appropriate as we're clearly best suited to make that determination.
I hate rap. But if you think its inappropriate then YOU should limit your kids exposure and access. Why must everything have a societal solution? There are far far more important things that we should spend our time on. Gun violence, Teenage Sex, Drugs, white collar crime, Blue collar crime, War, Poverty, High taxes, Welfare, Healtcare, Rush Limbaugh and Keith Obermann. To somehow suggest that the music is the root of some mysterious evil is just silly. Society isn't a reflection of rap music! Rap music is a reflection of a certain sector of society. If you want to fix the "problem" then spend some time educating people and giving them a positive outlet. To simply try to limit the music by the "Lincoln Boyz" is about as productive as emptying the pacific ocean with a bucket.
What is this Footloose??

Um... ever heard of Lil Wayne? Because what your kids hear on a radio is just as bad. There are some good hip hop groups that come out of Nebraska, this one is NOT one of them. I'm sure they suck... so don't worry about hearing them for much longer.

LOL, what a joke. I thought soccer moms abandoned the crusade against "violent music" back in the early 90's and moved on to other pointless crusades such as banning violent video games and over-regulating schools. Apparently LincolnLove never got the memo.
