Wow the Hispanic population has gotten big in South Omaha. Just as it is on the south side of Indianapolis.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I lived at 2615 "H" St. I doubt the house is even there anymore. We filed bankruptcy and moved out. On a visit in 2001 we stopped by and looked in the windows. There was a notice from the city that the garage was condemned. The hot water heater and furnace (brand new in 1988) were also removed. There was a dead fish lying on the back porch.

Good work Tones! You found the wanted pages for 2 suspected murders. That's about half of the average yearly total for all of South Omaha.

Such a horrible place!

[quote=Omaha Rocks;9709332]I live in part of the city you condemn. I neither pull the keys out of my pickup (sitting in the driveway) at night, nor lock the garage door. Ever.

You realize that burglary didn't happen in South Omaha, right?

The animal filth was a few blocks from the Sarpy border, and that is hardly something that is going to effect anyone but the homeowners and possibly their immediate neighbors. Talk about a stretch.

Perhaps those nostalgic for the "good ol' days" of Little Italy would cut off South-O at around Vinton -South Omaha has grown like all communities have in recent years. South of Leavenworth - east of 42nd. both cases fall within the modern boundries. As for the filth only effecting the immediate neighbors....."there goes the neighborhood". Thanks for making my point. (but we knew the neighborhood was gone already.)

Wrong.

South Omaha...just like Florence, Dundee, Benson, East Omaha, Saratoga, etc...was once an independent city that was annexed into Omaha and as such it's borders are already defined. South Omaha's boundaries are 42nd to the river and Vinton to Harrison/county line.

Even if you use the CoC's more liberal definition of South Omaha (which they admit does not follow the traditional boundaries) this burglary is almost a mile north of there.

Project South Omaha - Study Area (http://www.omahachamber.org/sodp/boundaries.html - broken link)

Your "modern boundaries" of South Omaha are also downright laughable as that would include a significant portion of Midtown.

Honestly, if you're going to sit here and try to tell people what parts of town are bad or good, you should acquire at least a rudimentary understanding of the city's history and the neighborhoods and districts contained within it, lest you get pounded by those who do.

It's funny how you've gone from putting down South Omaha due to violent crime, and then when that was blown out of the water, it went to arrest warrants for those wanted for probation violation and hit and run, and now it's about dirty homes with too many animals. Just like with the Downtown/Creighton argument, which you also lost miserably, this is a perfect example of the futility of your position.

Seriously, you reach more than Al Davis on draft day.

Also for those spectating this thread, you might enjoy these little tidbits.

South Omaha - Omaha, Nebraska

http://omahachamber.org/pdf/SODPMasterPlan.pdf (Warning: This file is 180+ pages)

That's a pretty big investment in time and money for an area that is supposedly "already gone" as Tones would have you believe.
