Default Propose to decrease runaways through our transportation system

Just thinking about a system that would be required by anyone evolved with transportation(buses and taxi) in Omaha to help situations with runaways. We would not be playing cop or big brother, but would have a way of identifying any runaways in Omaha or surrounding areas(updated every couple of days). This will be used get runaways back home or to at least get support so they would not be added to the homeless population. Taxi drivers do receive a background check and I imagine bus drivers do also.

A program like this will probably not cost a lot to implement and could even be voluntary.

In too many cases, runaway situations don't have good outcomes, and cost effective/voluntary programs in the community could never hurt.

Just my thoughts.

Not sure I understand what you're trying to suggest. Are you suggesting that a cab driver or bus driver would intercede and notice a kid is a runaway--to confront them to go home?

Good question, but no. Sorry for not explaining better. They would be reported to the police or hhs. That's all. I know that some runaways have reasons due to abuse, etc. In a perfect world, more intervention would be good for the runaway to address their real issues vs. 'they have a problem' and possibly this is already being handled better than I think, but it truly makes me sad to see anyone end up on the street, especially a youth.
