Well then I am sure he/she knows how expensive it is to move...unless of course someone else paid for it. Unfortunately not everyone has that luxury.

What, pray tell, are you talking about? Or maybe I should ask why you're talking about this at all?

I used to live in Minnesota - but not Minneapolis. However, my (our) sons currently live in Minneapolis. In case you're wondering, it's because they are adults and they have chosen to live there.

By the way, I grew up on a farm and farmed after college. I am fully aware of what a rendering plant is, and what it smells like. And the assertion that there are 5 rendering plants in Omaha - scattered throughout various neighborhoods - is nothing short of asinine. Zoning would NEVER allow that. Absolutely wrong.

Also, I own a rental house about 3 blocks from the address listed in the OP. I'm in that neighborhood all the time. And guess what? It's a good neighborhood - although I'm sure it'd be pretty boring to somebody who expects to be pandered to and entertained non-stop.

At this point I'd advise you stop while you're still ahead. Unfortunately, you're not ahead. You're deeply in the hole here. So maybe the more appropriate advice is to stop digging!

I am actually not in a hole but apparently you would like to put me in one to shut me up. If I offended you by telling you that I thought Omaha was boring that is your issue.. but I have a right to state my opinion too. This is a public forum and you don't own it.

Another thing... I didn't say that the rendering plants were in neighborhoods. Go back and read the posts instead of reading into the posts according to your own discomfort and insecurity. If you like Omaha "Omaha Rocks" then enjoy your city and let others state their own opinions.

For instance: If you go out to dinner with someone and they don't like what you have ordered would you get mad or offended? I sure hope not because everyone has their own preferences and likes and dislikes.. Get a clue and get a life

Please don't push me here... I don't stop easily and I will provide statistics on these rendering plants if you continue to push.. We could have ended this along time ago if you would have accepted my apologies but you just kept going on and on...

Now we are totally off topic of what the OP was posting about on this thread...

I would LOVE to know about all these supposed Rendering Plants in Omaha.

By the way, here is your quote: "And another thing...do you know what a "rendering plant" is? Google it.. I think the name of one of those lovely facilities is Darling International. I think Omaha and the surrounding areas have five of those plants, plus transferring stations... Well perhaps it doesn't bother you but personally I would want to know about those locations before I picked a neighborhood to live in."

So you lived in South Omaha for a brief period of time. You are aware, aren't you, that South Omaha USED TO BE known for its Stockyards and Packing Plants? THAT is what you smelled, not Rendering Plants. And you might want to be aware of the fact that Omaha has actually changed - though I'm sure not enough to satisfy you - over the past 40 years.

Now... I would LOVE to know where all those Rendering Plants are, in Omaha!

Sorry, but only one of those plants is actually a rendering plant.
It's the one on South 27th St - which is literally the interchange of I-80 & Kennedy Expressway. Weirdly enough, tens of thousands of people drive right past that plant every day, and nobody ever smells anything.

Please note that an office building for Darling International is hardly a rendering plant.

Also, Grand Island is not part of the "surrounding area." It's a city that's over 150 miles away.

See now... Here's what happens when somebody, who lived briefly in Omaha about 30 years ago, starts snotting off about the city. South Omaha is not Omaha. It's a small part of Omaha. A rendering plant in South Omaha does not mean you have to be extremely careful about which neighborhood you live in, so as to not end up near a rendering plant.

As I said earlier, you need to stop digging your hole deeper. What's that old saying? When you find yourself in a hole, the first and best thing to do is stop digging.

Raelyn, why do keep posting things about a city that you moved out of many years ago? Do you think that it is still the same place that it was when you moved away?

Raelyn28 is a jewel in the roughRaelyn28 is a jewel in the roughRaelyn28 is a jewel in the roughRaelyn28 is a jewel in the roughRaelyn28 is a jewel in the roughRaelyn28 is a jewel in the rough
I have been back to Omaha SEVERAL times through the years to visit friends and family and know quite a few people there. I talk to my brother all the time along with uncles and cousins, etc... People tell me it is even more boring than when I lived there because Omaha removed the two best places... Peony park and Merritts Beach. Those two places held the happiest memories for me and now they are gone. There isn't a lot to do in Omaha and that is a well known fact.

And this is the reason for my post here. I tried to correct my mistake on post number "25". I apologized because I posted my comment on the wrong thread. I meant to respond to a person who was asking if they should move to Omaha because of the low cost of housing. All I was doing was being honest. See the thread intitled "Should I move to Nebraska because unemployment and the cost of living is low"? For some reason I was on the wrong thread responding to the wrong question which like I said, I apologized for.

So to make a long story short everyone became really critical and then even after I apologized this "Omaha Rocks" person continued to pursue the discussion. I don't appreciate it when someone calls me a "liar" so I simply answered his questions.

I have a very big issue with the fact that this is a City Data forum and people sometimes fail to tell inquiring people the whole truth about a certain area. There are people who have NEVER been to certain cities and they come here for help, guidance and instruction. They depend on those living in those areas for help. It makes me upset when people are not honest because they are partial to "their city" or for whatever the reason they are painting their rosey pictures.

All I was doing was answering a question according to what I think about Omaha. There is nothing wrong with that. At least the OP can take what everyone has said, weigh the pros and cons and make their own decision based on a healthy variety of opinions and experiences. I believe I lived in Omaha long enough and know enough people to have an opinion about it that is of some validity even if others disagree...

That is basically it and I hope I have answered your question. Thank you for being kind about it. I never meant for the discussion to get "off track" but this "Omaha Rocks" person had to go on and on with it. You know what I mean? I meant no harm by any of this, just stating facts here and answering questions.

The real problem is that "this Raelyn28 person" kept going on and on, spouting off personal opinion as if it were fact.

Here's the deal: When you say something that is flagrantly untrue - such as your claim that there are 5 rendering plants in and around Omaha that make whole areas stench - I'm going to call you out on it and prove that what you're saying is not correct.

If you don't like to have your "untruths" exposed for what they are, just stop telling untruths. Fair enough?
