I'm assuming this has something to do with global warming. It's funny some people think that temperatures won't fluctuate but continuously rise otherwise they claim it doesn't exist.

The gore effect... Whenever he comes to give a speech, the weather is unusually frigid.

Actually, this thread is kind of interesting.
For the past 10 years, we've had Al Gore and his ilk screaming and yelling about the disaster of Global Warming. Global temperatures supposedly continue to rise, and we're headed for disaster. Then along comes a cold wave that sets records lows all across the United States, in early October.
Where is Al Gore when this needs to be explained away?
Well, I'll tell you where Al Gore is.
- He's in his Nashville mansion - a mansion that consumes 20x the amount of electricity and 10x the amount of natural gas consumed by the average American home.
- He's flying all over the country, in his private charter jet, spewing tens of thousands of pounds of exhaust into the atmosphere he claims to care so much about.
- He's laughing all the way to the bank, because the BUSINESS of Global Warming has netted him hundreds of millions of dollars.
That said, we all need to live green! Not because Al Gore and his disciples say so, but because it makes perfectly good sense to take care of our planet. We should live as green as possible, despite the FACT that Al Gore doesn't.

The phenomenon is called Global Warming, not Omaha warming. Doesn't really matter if the temperature here goes up or down a few degrees on average. Has more to do with places like the North and South pole that a few degrees would mean a sea level change of several inches as the ice caps melt off. That would be a big deal for about 75% of the world's population. I know a lot of folks around here are small picture people. They just think its funny to laugh at Al Gore, but the sad fact for those people is Al Gore is right. As funny as it is to laugh about snow in October and say Global warming isn't real; it really just displays the fact that the speaker does not understand the subject.
Omaha Rocks is right though, it does seem a little hypocritical that Al Gore uses a ton of energy himself for seemingly exessive uses. But overall he is right on the science and the risks.

Ummm... Sorry, but Al Gore is wrong about a whole lot more things than he's right about.
There is no consensus on Global Climate Change (it's no longer able to be called Global Warming). Interestingly enough, average global temperatures seem to be cooling.
DailyTech - Temperature Monitors Report Widescale Global Cooling
Again, let's take care of the environment and be as green as possible - but for the right reasons, not because some blow-hard politicians are making hundreds of millions of dollars on the hype.

Is this from the same people that say there is no concensus on Evolution? Or that say the earth is 8,000 years old?

This article clearly shows '08 was cooler than '07, that's all. you can't really base a trend on that. Anyway this chart in the article also shows that '07 was the third hottest ever. So for it to be significantly cooler the next year isn't too surprising. If you stretch this graph out and look at the BIG picture it is clear that there are year to year fluctuations, BUT the overall trend shows going up. IF this continues for the next ten years we can probably talk about a cooling trend. This article doesn't seem like anything but propaganda to me.
It's a perfect example of looking at the small picture, not the big picture...
