Default Living Between Lincoln and Omaha

I posted this question in the NE forum, as well. We may relocate to NE. My husband would work in Lincoln, but there are extracurricular programs and schools (all-boys Catholic schools) that I think I would prefer for my children in Omaha. Is it feasible to live between the two cities, or would the commutes be too long during rush hour? What would be the best communities to look at? We can afford a high-end neighborhood. Thanks for any advice.

Amy

Jamom,

I live in west Omaha right now and commute to Lincoln everyday. It will depend on where your husband works but its not a bad commute at all. For me, its about 45 minutes door-to-door.

Its certainly doable. And depending on where you're coming from 45 minutes might be a walk in the park. The traffic is not bad at all and they're currently widening the stretch between Omaha and Lincoln, speeding the trip up even furhter (well, once the construction is done).

Hi Amy,

I'm assuming you're talking about Creighton Prep High School in Omaha (one of the best high schools in the city). I'd look for a place near I-80 in the southwestern part of the metro area. It would cut down on hubby's commute time as well as your kids' trips to school. Where will your husband be working in Lincoln? Traffic in Omaha is relatively light and slowdowns occur on heavily travelled main arteries in west Omaha.

I would recommend Gretna, minutes outside of West Omaha you can be in downtown Lincoln in under 30 minutes and downtown Omaha in 20-25 minutes. Great Interstate access
