Given the current economic climate...yes, things are pretty good in Omaha.

Nebraska has the 3nd lowest unemployment rate in the country. In August we had a 5.0% rate of unemployment. The closest states to that were ND with the lowest of 4.3% and SD with 4.9%.

Oh my gosh. I live in a state with one of the highest unemployment rates and am looking to move to one with more job opportunities which is why I joined this very informative board. What are you guys doing right?

Omaha is now on my list of places to visit with relocation in mind.

The Omaha metro area generally has a diverse range of employment opportunities along with a low cost of living. The downside is that it is not seen as a "desirable" place to live. However, it does offer a good deal of entertainment options, minor league sports, UNO, Creighton, and a multitude of eateries. I would move to the Omaha area before I would ever consider Kansas City.

If you're a doctor, nurse, or electrician by all means come here - there are plenty of jobs for you.

If you're a trial lawyer or aspiring musician or actor...please don't come.

Yeah, we really don't want creative people here in Nebraska.
