Wow - one of these days I'll re-visit Omaha and, from the sound of things, I won't recognize much of it. I left in January 1973. I'm very surprised to hear about Southroads and Crossroads - I take there has been a major population shift to the southwest?

When I came in 1968, Westroads and Southroads were brand new and one of my first jobs was at National Shirt Shop in Westroads. Crossroads was a few years older, but had a much older feel to it - even back then. But I'm still very surprised to hear it is just about dead. Perhaps we're entering an era where malls in general are having a tougher time economically.

I'm still not over hearing that the Indian Hills theater was demolished several years ago. I read that here on this forum and was absolutely stunned. It was a national treasure and so memorable for me.

Just towards the west in general, although it looks like that might be changing.

If you haven't been in Omaha since 1973, you're going to be a little shocked.

Okay, maybe VERY shocked.

Yeah, I would expect so.

I visited briefly a couple times in the 80s, but that's it. I think the last time was a weekend in 1988 mainly to see the Thunderbirds at Offutt. I lived in the KC area then.

I would assume next year since their new headquarters doesn't look like it'll be finished this year.

I live in south Omaha and soutroads was the place to go back in the late 80's to early 90's. I was sad when Woolworth's shut down and left a gaping hole in the mall. It's what I feel started the decline of the mall.

If they could bring it back I would shop there as it's a mere 10 minute bike ride on mostly flat land. SO much better than going out west.

I wonder, is john's Grecian delight restaurant still in the lower level? Last I was there it was the only surviving store from when I was a kid. They were surviving on the Ameritrade crowd. Would be nice to see them part of any revitalization effort.

I do remember the southroads 4, in fact I posted about it in your theater thread. I watched stargate there when it was released, which I believe was shortly before the theater closed for good.

As for South Cinema 7, it was simply too far south. Basically if I can't get there by foot or bike quickly then I don't go. I do know of it as it was next to a valentino's that we would go to often, but by then it was closed.
