We are looking at a house in this area of Omaha, and I would like any info anyone has about the crime rate. Everyone I talk to hears North 40th and says "bad neighborhood," but none of these people live in Omaha. I live in CB and am not really familiar with most Omaha neighborhoods, except to know that 30th and Ames is bad.
Any info you have would be appreciated. Am I right in thinking that the biggest threat would be property crime? The high school would be Benson, so does that mean that the house is in Benson? Thanks again! |

Thats around 40th and Ames right?
Have you driven by the property during the day to see what the block will be like?. One block of any area in any city could have alot of people who cause lots of problems and another one might be just quiet folks. Anyway, It probubly isnt as bad as the 30th street corridor but I personally wouldnt want to live in that area with the amount of violent crime and problems they have around there. It seems as though that is a transitional area, but has not transitioned enough in my opinion. As far as North Omaha I have walked down Ames and 30th at 11pm at night. They have problems in that area, but I didnt feel like it was that bad. It seems like the majority of violence in North Omaha are more directed at people involved in negative activities and not innocent people walking down the street. |

No, Ames is about a mile away according to Google Earth. This is near Nebraska School for the Deaf and Adams Park.
I'm driving by tomorrow to get a feel for it and the neighborhood. I'm not thrilled by the idea of a transitioning neighborhood either, but I know that things can change block to block like you say. |

Thanks for all the replies. We looked at it, and the specific area wasn't that bad, but the house just needed too much work for us.
