Shouldn't they be out catching criminals?

You realize that not all cops are out on patrol, right?

Of course. I just don't see how having cops spend time with a cop facebook page accomplishes anything. Now if they were on there pretending to be kids or something so that they can catch pedophiles I would be ok with that. Anyone ever see that show on NBC they did for a while where they confronted internet pedophiles? Kind of like that.

I think it is a great idea. Yes, some cops should be out "catching criminals" but others need to be involved in their community. The 70's mentality of aloof cops needs to go away. The "Community Oriented Policing" concept that became vogue in the 1990's has a lot of merit to it. YOUR police department communicating with YOU, their tax-paying public via Facebook is yet another way to improve communication, cooperation and even accountability.

As oblivious as this poster seems... It's actually a pretty profound statement.

I don't like my tax dollars going to a bunch of coppers dicking around on facbeook.

Also - I don't like my tax dollars going to coppers who hide out of sight and pull people over for going 69 in a 65.

In conclusion - I don't hate cops. I'm just saying, there is enough crime on the streets of Omaha to occupy the entire force. Hanging out on the net all day should be reserved for those of us who work all hours of the night...
