Hello. I will be moving to Omaha sometime next year, mostly to be closer with family. Here's a few details about myself and what I am looking for:

-Just turned 60
-Single with no children
-Retired this past spring after teaching high school psychology and history for 35 years.
-I've also been working as a licensed therapist for several years.

I'm hoping to work for a few more years as a family therapist and I would certainly consider substitute teaching if time allows it, but finding work isn't an absolute priority at the moment.

I'm looking to live in a well established, middle class suburban neighborhood. I hear great things about Omaha, so I'm very excited about this move.

I'll be visiting for the first time next week for Thanksgiving, but any advice and or recommendations would be appreciated!

^ Look into the Dundee & Happy Hollow areas. Sounds like they could be a good fit for you.

And... Welcome!

Exclamation I am moving to Omaha also

May I join this thread? I'm brand new to the Omaha forum.

I lived in Council Bluffs as a child and early teen, and I want to move back. My plans are to move asap (like now ).
It took me a year of research, and it finally came down to South Dakota and Omaha/Council Bluffs. The latter won.

I'm a 54-year-old single female who would like to rent/sublet a condo in a safe, quiet area (away from the college) where there is a more mature population.

Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

As a side note, I've lived all over the country, and I adore the people in the SD/IA/NE. Some of the nicest people in the U.S. IMHO.

Oh sorry, I didn't clarify. Either would be good because they're so close. I remember living in Council Bluffs when I was 13 and my family going to Omaha for food shopping, etc.

Thanks Go Ne.... (nice name, btw ). What about Council Bluffs? Any suggestions there?

I recall that my family had a house on a lake in C.B. It was a really nice area, but I don't remember where because I was only 13 at the time.

^Pretty much all neighborhoods in Omaha are mature - there's no college zone to speak of. Only select apartment buildings in dundee, aksarben village, and downtown are student-dominated. But that's not to say that those areas aren't mature...

Thank you Burquebinder. Are there any areas I should stay away from in Omaha?
