The OWH Park was just completed last year with the paper making it sound like they were land banking the property for the long term... well it's now for sale $33/SF which is actually a pretty decent price. Sadly I never see anyone over there. I always thought it would have been interesting if they would have turned that entrance area into a newspaper stand selling OWH paper, ice cream, hot dogs and other snacks. I would have gone over there quite often to grab a snack and read the paper on their park benches... as it is now, it's not a very welcoming park.

My understanding is that the OWH park was a cheap, short term solution while they found someone to develop the land. There were a lot of rumors that it would be a new tower. However, I couldn't think of a single company in Omaha who's in any sort of need or position for a new DT highrise at this time.

It doesn't have to be an Omaha company in order to get a tower. Although I agree it could be a bit before this plot gets developed. I think more focus is on the old Swanson site right now.

I guess my point is that not many US corporations are in skyscraper building mode. Also, I couldn't think of any nationwide corporation besides MAYBE Pac Life who would have an immediate interest in building DT. Just very bad timing, not to say that it's impossible.
If any sort of high rise construction is going to take place, I would agree it would be on the old Swanson site and it would most likely be a hotel.

The old Swanson site is now Qwest parking. With parking being taken from Qwest for the new ballpark, I would guess it will stay as parking. The new lots were packed this past weekend for the wrestling tournament.

According the the "Master Plan", that is intended to be temporary parking. Which I hope so, if not, a parking garage with ground level retail/restaurant would be ok.
No surface lots, though...

Ya, the parking lot is suppose to be a land bank. It was packed during the wrestling meet, but the lot north of the Qwest was pretty wide open. It should be interested to see how the parking works out next year for the CWS. Nothing like an "urban ballpark" in the middle of parking lots.

That lot has to be developed by 2019. I believe the city made an agreement.
