Stop slamming OC
I live in Orange County now, and I'm moving in a few weeks for a variety of reasons (mainly the high cost of living and the traffic). However, seeing all the threads bashing the OC is growing old. I think the readers of this forum can ascertain the benefits as well as disadvantages of living in this part of the state, based on the numerous posts which already exist.
Some people will like it here, some won't. If you live here and hate it, you can leave. It's a free country. Not everyone who lives here is a snob or rich. It's not necessary to keep posting "hate" threads just for the sake of venting. I'm not putting anyone down or judging anyone who has posted their thoughts about Orange County. If someone wants to move here, they might enjoy some of the positive things that OC has to offer, and they can decide if the negatives are worth it or not.

No one is "slamming" Orange county. There are a number of people who come on here to tell the reality of the place which is that it is not any better than anywhere else. A few are offended by those who tell the truth for some reason I guess.

They aren't "telling the truth" they are giving their opinion without any justification, they aren't stating facts. Negative posts would be much more helpful for people if they did "tell the truth" though, that is state facts and give reasons for the things they say.

They are stating facts. Facts based on the direct observations made by people on this board from -not only NY-but many other east coast states as well who have lived in OC and know what they're speaking of.
Here's a comment on racism in OC which proves that OC does have a white supremacist tendency & history and comments on local attempts made to deny it;
"McGirr's interviews fail in another respect — her subjects are allowed to practice revisionist history, prettying up their pasts to avoid any suspicion that their actions were motivated by racism. Orange County was lily-white until the late 1970s, and conservatives tried to keep it that way.
McGirr's book cites several cases of racial hatred: in 1954, a Korean-American Olympic medal winner was twice unable to purchase a home in Garden Grove; not long after, an African-American Air Force lieutenant was faced down by a hostile group of more than 50 people after he purchased a home in Garden Grove; and in 1961, another African American had the windows of his apartment shot out."
SPLCenter.org: Roots of the Right
Here's a link which proves that despite OC's claims to diversity, it's all BULLOCKS ..as the English would say;
"While Cal State Fullerton has been acclaimed as an institution immersed in diversity and culture, a glaring number sticks out from the university's official fact sheet - a 3 percent enrollment of black students."
Cal State Fullerton's Lack of Black - News
Here's what other californians think of OC;
"No matter how much we insist Orange County is a great place, an entire portion of California continues to disagree. That portion consists of anywhere that’s not Orange County. But perhaps no place better represents the antithesis of the popular view of Orange County than the Bay Area. Where Orange County is often perceived as materialistic, conservative and uncultured, the Bay Area is considered the jewel of the West Coast."
Orange County Weekly - Trent Lapinski
Here's what some of the Mexican community thinks about OC;
"I tend to snore during plays, but my peepers didn't flutter once when I attended a staging of "The Mexican OC," a new play highlighting the history of Mexicans in Orange County. Though the vignettes jump from the 1892 lynching of a Mexican laborer by Santa Ana civic leaders to the student walkouts of this March, the theme remained the same: If you're a Mexican in the county of milk and Mickey, expect mucho discrimination."
HispanicVista Columnists (broken link)
Here's a comment from law enforcement on the existence of white supremacists in OC;
"ADL also warned of the presence of active white supremacists in Orange County. Joyce Greenspan, Director of ADL's Orange County/Long Beach Region, said, "As an organization that has been monitoring extremist groups for more than 50 years, it is ADL's duty to alert the public that these groups and individuals are operating in our backyard."

Most of what I see are generalizations that are clearly not directly observed. How do you directly observe everyone? Generalizations aren't "directly observed" they are induced from random samples, the people round a single person don't count as a random sample. Anyhow, if they are talking about people in general they are stating their opinion, which is fine but not that useful for people thinking of moving to the area.

The article is about blacks, do you have to have X number of blacks to be diverse? That is silly.
To all of your other citations. Nobody claims there aren't racists in Orange County. People are racist no matter where you go. Do you have a study that shows that people in Orange County are more racist than average?

What is out? What is your claim? That some people in Orange County are racist? Did anybody say nobody was racism in Orange County? I don't get it.

Look, I'm about as card carrying a liberal as it gets, but Orange County is NOT a hotbed of racism. Yeah, you have racists there, especially in places like Huntington Beach and, to a lesser extent, Brea, but those guys are considered losers who no right thinking person of any ethnicity wants to be associated with. In any place you have millions of people you will find a few white trash knuckleheads and OC is no different.
And Korean-Americans? Gee, it's so tough for them that they live in nice homes in places such as Irvine and Anaheim Hills. Must be nice. I can't afford that. But hey, good for them. They work for it.
The 1950's were then and this is now. Orange County was always lily white compared to L.A. and still is. But nobody is keeping blacks out of moving there. If you have the cash go for it! There is also little discrimination against hispanics provided that they are like the rest of us, law abiding people who just want to be left alone to do our thing and live in peace and quiet, and not a member of the gangs in places such as Santa Ana, Stanton and Anaheim. Cops tend to discriminate against criminals. That's a good thing.
The other thing is that it is hispanics, especially gangbangers, in my experience who tend to join brown supremacist organizations such as MECHA. It ain't white folks using terms such as "gabacho," gringo," "honky," etc, either and signing up for LaRaza.
So this whole OC is racist stuff is horse puckey. This is just clutching at straws. You can find racists anywhere. Blacks are probably the most racist people in America who aren't wearing either Nazi regalia or white hoods. I'm so tired of too many blacks guilt tripping white people for stuff that happened in the 1960's and trying to use it as a get out of jail or accountability free card. Give it a freaking rest! We aren't out to get you. REALLY!

I have seen what happens when a black family moves into a white community, the people talk about their home values going down and think about moving.
Although people aren't explicitly preventing blacks from moving to say Irvine, there are a lot of implicit things that prevent it.

Well you said it "provided that they are like the rest of us". If they are into their traditional culture they aren't very welcome despite not being criminals.

Gee, and I wonder why blacks don't want to move to Orange County. I have lived in a black area (not in CA, moving back soon) for the past 3 years and nobody has treated me badly because I'm white. Yet I've seen many examples of the opposite, white people treating them badly.

If their "traditional culture" requires them to live 20 to a house, park cars on the lawn, cat call little girls walking down the street, blast loud music all day and night, and have **** fights on the weekends, then NO, they're not going to be welcome and accepted. Otherwise, no one cares where they're from.
